Dark red patch on scar

Options

I am really scared. This morning I woke up and I have a linear dark red to purplish patch running diagonally on the widest part of my scar on the cancer side. It looks like under the skin bleeding. I did have some itching in that general area over the weekend, but did not look to see what was going on, just scratched through my clothes a bit. I've never had anything like this before. I'll call the doctor's office as soon as they open and beg for somebody to take a look at me today.

Could it be a bug bite? Not sure where you live but fleas, mosquitoes, spiders.....

Definitely not a bug bite. It's way too dark for that. More like a bunch of dark red petechiae in a line about an inch long and a quarter inch wide. Still waiting for the doctor's office to call back.

I got into see the nurse practitioner this afternoon.  She says it doesn't look concerning - she says it looks more like a scratch.  I did have some itching over the weekend (I have terrible dry skin in the radiated areas, particularly this time of year) and we're thinking that when I was scratching that area, I hurt myself. It definitely wasnt there just before the weekend.  I have always bruised easy and been prone to petechiae from scratching, even though my blood counts are normal.

Right now the plan is to monitor it and make sure it starts fading as a bruise should.

Glad that you got reassuring news! My skin is so damaged from the rads I had almost 4 years ago and the capillaries are permanently broken in that area. I was wondering if you might have had some late onset rads damage. Anyway, yay!!!! Good news!

I have some rads damage, too, with broken capillaries and super dry skin.  They don't warn you that it keeps changing.  I was 3 years out when the broken capillaries started appearing.

I feel like my skin is more fragile and sensitive to irritation in the radiated areas, too.  Do you notice that?  I wear a soft cotton t shirt under all my shirts and sweaters now to try to prevent rubbing from rougher fabrics.

My skin is definitely more sensitive. Everything (skin, muscles, tissues) are just all messed up from the radiation. The mastectomy messed with the nerves, but the radiation threw everything else for a loop!
