Lump in dense, cystic breast

43 years old, started with mammograms a year and a half ago to be “safe”

My US show over 150 benign cysts in my breasts. Last year I had a biopsy in left breast for microcalcs which turned out to be benign. Last week I felt a lump in my right breast. It’s round, a little bigger than an M&M, firm, painless and it feels like a ball moving around in a socket if that makes any sense. If i push on one edge of it, the opposite edge pops up. I keep checking to see if it gets smaller or disappeared but it hasn’t changed.

My US/diagnostic mammo isn’t until the 15th.

What is the chance that this is the only cyst I can suddenly feel when the rest of them are only seen on US?

Kerri - you already have testing scheduled. You can call you doc to see if she/he thinks that needs to be accelerated. But the best thing you can do is stop feeling. Certainly don't search google. And do something fun to get you mind off of this.

Hi Kerri...as a fellow fibrocystic sister I started mammograms when I was in my 20's due to the number of cysts that would pop up. With our breasts there is so much going on in there it is hard to try to guess what it could be and it truly would be just a guess. Fibrocystic changes come and go and sometimes the coming and going does not happen in what we like to think of as a timely manner. I know it is hard to not touch and feel but it probably isn't going to change quickly.

I did find when I was following a cyst that if I scheduled a weekly self check it helped me keep my hands off of it till I could get imaging. That way I could put it to the side and get on with my life. I was also with my hubby in my 20's and it helped to have him check with me so I had another opinion on it. 😊

I agree with Minus...stay off the internet...its just unnecessarily scary to try to self-diagnosis.

Thanks for your support ladies. My doctor tried to move my appointment up but the imaging center was completely booked. She wasn’t overly concerned but her office operates with an attitude if you are concerned, they will try to get you to who ever you need to see ASAP. It’s reassuring they are that way when I read stories of doctors that won’t write referrals or do anything quickly. I’m here at this point just to vent and read stories of others going through the same thing.

Kerri...vent all you want, this is a good place to be. Cystic breasts are known for throwing us into the deep end of "waiting anxiety."

I know they dont often get then but I always ask to be put on a cancellation list if they have it and you are able to accommodate a short notice appointment.
