Aromasin side effects

Hi there. I was switched from tamoxifen to Aromasin a month or so ago due to my labs showing I started menopause. As usual, it took me a while to work up the nerve to start it. I think I’ve been taking it for about a month. At first it went ok but as time went on, it became unbearable. I was having such difficulty breathing, pressure in my chest, an odd sensation at the base of my throat, acid reflux despite taking it with meals, abdominal pain, constipation, joint pain and some acute bouts of anxiety. I stopped taking it 3 days ago and I’m feeling much better. So much better that I’m scared to continue taking it. I haven’t called my oncologist yet because I wanted to see if it was indeed med side effects. I will call on Monday.

In the meantime, do you think it’s possible I’m allergic to this med or are these typical side effects? I swear I was absolutely fine before I started it.

Also, is anyone successfully taking any natural alternatives to an AI?

Just popping in to say you’ll find a variety of threads about this with different thoughts from different people. For one thing, a lot of us started the AI gradually, and that seemed to help with SEs. Many will report that SEs got better over time. Some believe the manufacturer of your particular pill makes a difference—that different manufacturers use different fillers. Your MO will tell you that of the three AIs, different individuals tolerate them differently. You’ll also read that exercise makes a big difference, and I absolutely believe that.

Checking in with your MO is a good idea. Mine started me on anastrozole—in her experience her patients had the fewest SEs with that one.

i have the same thing on aromasin. i stopped twice just for 3 or 4 days at a time and the FIRST day i felt way better! it helps knowing the awful side effects are just the medicine and not me. and when you think of the alternative to NOT taking it , thats not even an option. i am so glad to read all these posts and see its not just me , we all are suffering with this to some extent or another. good luck to you!!!!
