Need talking off the ledge

Reaching out because I’m driving myself crazy.

I am nine years post treatment (34 years old at diagnosis, Stage 1, er/pr positive, her 2-) and recently developed discomfort on a rib under my armpit. Sonogram showed nothing. Bone scan is next Tuesday.

I have a three year old daughter whom I adore. I’m going sick thinking I might leave her. My husband’s mother died of BC when he was six and it had a profound effect on his life.

I’ve had scares before but nothing like this - the whole area is just very strange feeling, with a particular tender bruised-like area on a rib.

Anyone experience this and find out it was nothing?

    Nicola, I have had that kind of pain several times.....long before dx of bc and BMX. Never could figure out the origin but ultimately decided I twisted when gardening, cleaning, etc. A friend had the same that got progressively worse and finally learned that her rib had moved out of place. Got it back in place and she was fine. Rather than worry yourself sick, consider having it looked at.....at least then you will know whether you need to do something or just wait it out. Hopefully it is only something minor!!

    Just wanted to chime in here too with some positive vibes. We're sending our best thoughts that this is nothing at all to worry about. We get it's hard after a breast cancer diagnosis to not immediately think the worst, but try to remain positive and keep yourself busy until you have some answers. We're thinking of you!

    I've had a very similar experience -- rib pain is a very funny thing! I've had it for a year or so before my diagnosis. Got a bone scan and it was nothing. Possibly a bruised rib probably from working out. It happens and is very common. It could also be costochondritis (inflammation of rib cartilage) which is also very common! No need to panic!!     I've also had rib pain. My (now departed) fat cat slept on my right (cancer) side and I woke with pain. It lasted for over a week. That was several years ago.

    Occasionally I will have tender spots on my ribs, especially near the floating rib at the bottom. Best to you.
