Waiting and wondering

This is all pretty new to me. I found a fairly good size mass in my left breast a few weeks ago. I’ve just had a mammogram and ultrasound and I am awaiting an appointment for a biopsy. I’m fairly nervous because I’ve been reading up about breast cancer and although I’m not diagnosed my gut tells me that it’s likely. I also noticed when they were doing my ultrasound that they either found a node in my axilla or another lump I’m not sure.

Backstory as well is that I have been having some brutal back pain since Feb which has gotten progressively worse. I’ve done all sorts of treatment for the back pain and nothing has helped. My friends and family are telling me not to jump to conclusions and to take things one step at a time but it’s tough. It’s really hard not to go to a dark place. I’m 43 no family history of breast cancer.

The waiting is so hard. I hope your biopsy yields benign results.

If I were you, I'd take it one step at a time. You can't assume that you have breast cancer. You can't assume that your back pain is the product of bone mets.

My lump was HUGE (5 cm. + a lovely satellite.) Plus, one node did test positive for breast cancer. But, that node was as far as the cancer had spread.

Lots of things cause back pain. These might be completely unrelated events.

Dear nitramds, we want to welcome you to our Community here at BCO. We hope that this turns out to be benign, and you can move past this. We know it's hard not to worry, but try to keep busy the next few days to keep your mind off the waiting.

Good luck with biopsy. Please keep us posted!

Thanks for the replies. I really appreciate it. I have a bit of an update. My GP called and apparently the radiologist that will do the biopsy wants to review my scans because the first report was as my GP said “damning” to me. I guess I have multiple masses in my left breast. I wanted to see the report but my GP said she would rather wait for the new report. I’m a nurse so I just want to know what’s going on.

Try to squeeze in some fun between appointments and tests; it really helped me.
