Hello, I am concerned about a rash that has shown up on the left side of my breast. I noticed it a few months ago and at the time I noticed it was there it was about the size of a quarter now it is about the size of a fifty cent piece or slightly larger. it is under my bra so nothing is rubbing or causing irritation. I haven't changed my laundry soap or bath soap. I don't notice any dimpling, nothing wrong with my nipple's or a difference it the size of my breast or swelling or heat, Just a red rash that seems to be getting bigger. As far as itching, I have some itching on my breasts but I think that it just normal itching lol. I know you are all going to tell me to go see a doctor and I will, but I unfortunately don't have medical insurance and I live in a small community from pay check to pay check so money is tight. I was just hoping to hear if anyone has or had the same red rash and what it might be. Thanks for any and all advice.

You could try Planned Parenthood and ask about it when they do a breast exam. This really sounds like a “start with a primary care doc” issue. Also, since it is October there are probably any number of free breast care screening things going on

Breasts are great environments for rashes since they tend to stay warm and damp. If I had tried cortisone cream and that didn’t do much I personally would try an anti-fungal (athletes foot) cream to see what that did while I was waiting to get in to a doctor, but there are lots of reasons for rashes.

Unfortunately there are so many things that can cause a rash...only a doctor is going to really be able to help you. I know it's not what you want to hear, but that's something that needs in-person evaluation, especially since it's persistent. Is there a primary care provider in your area that might do a payment plan for you?

Those are good ideas. I have tried the cortisone cream with no change but not the anti-fungal, I will try that. I will be going to see my doctor as soon as I can get an appointment. I shouldn't of googled so much about it because now I am nervous.

I understand about the rashes in warm damp folds of your skin and sometimes I do get a rash under my breast where my bra rubs that goes away in a couple days, but this is on the side of my breast where their is no moisture and nothing to rub against. I am calling tomorrow to see about getting an appointment set up. I was just wondering in the meantime if anyone else had just a rash with no other symptoms.

I have the same weird rash about the size of a fifty cent piece as well. Mine is also not in any fold of skin. No itching or burning no pitting but it just doesn't see to be getting well. I have started an antibiotic cream and an oral steroid for a couple days as prescribed by a GP. I am very worried about any doctor taking my situation seriously since I don't have any of the other classic IBC symptoms. Is this also how it can present though? Before it gets the orange peel look and inverted nipple. I was hoping for some feedback from others diagnosed with this as a very early symptom.

Yes Deezyrose, it sounds just like mine. I have been reading about IBC the last couple days and it seems like it can't be detected with a mammogram. A red rash is one of the symptoms but would their be any other symptoms along with it? Has anyone been diagnosed with only having the red rash and no other symptoms. Like I said, I don't have a lot of money and I don't wanna go se a GP that wont take it seriously either. I am looking for feedback as well whether it was a negative or positive diagnosis. When I go see a GP should I insist having an ultra sound and skip the mammogram?

IBC is tested with a punch biopsy. Search on this site and you will find hundreds of threads on IBC.

Went to see my doctor and of course he doesn't know what it is. It doesn't look like a fungus or eczema he says. He referred me to a dermatologist and scheduled me for a mammogram and ultra sound. another 3 week wait!!! Seems like if it was fungal or bacteria infection or any kind of skin rash their would be itching, cracking, flaking, swollen or something other then just a red patch.
