Lumpectomy vs Mastectomy, how to make that hard decision?
Good morning everyone,
I saw the breast specialist yesterday. I was diagnosed with stage 2 ILC two small spots (approx. 2mm each) but there is approx. 5 cm area of extensive classical lobular carcinoma in situ. I'm scheduled for BRCA testing Friday, they stated that will help direct with which way to go. My head is still spinning from all the information I received yesterday. My BS was very thorough and very sweet and made sure I understood all my options. I do have two separate appointments with two plastic surgeons to see what my options are. Its such a difficult decision and knowing which one will be best!

It's probably worth checking out the ILC threads as well. Just to give you a heads up that ILC is not always discernible on various scans sometimes even MRIs are not completely diagnostic.

If you scroll through the various threads on the ILC main thread, there are a couple referring directly to your questions. But you might have to go back a few pages.

Thank you as well trinigirl50, I will check that out that thread as well. That is my concern that ILC is hard to detect and I don't know if I want to live with that worry....so I understand why women decide to go the mastectomy.

Hi San, what did you decide? I was diagnosed with ILC in August 2019. I was recommended lumpectomy but I decided to have double mastectomy. I am so glad because they found cancer in 2 out of 5 lymph nodes.
