How long to wait for surgery?

So...question about timing. How long can I wait for surgery? Biopsy report is showing a rare type of cancer, plus I have dense breast with a significant history of cysts. There are 2 centers in my city. They are both good. I have a team meeting scheduled with the first one on 10/17. But I am thinking I want a second opinion. I am going to push for the bone scan and whatever other tests they can do to check for metastasis. Quality of life is huge for me and this type of cancer (in what little research there is) can have a tendency to be aggressive so I want to know that before I make any decisions. But how long is too long to wait? I will be 1 week out from diagnosis on Wednesday.

Mammogram 9/26

Diagnostic Mammogram with US 10/8

US Guided Biopsy 10/9

Failed at Breast MRI 10/11 and probably won't be able to do it.

Thanks!

If I was in your position I wouldn't wait. There is nothing to say you can't do then both right now. Maybe meeting with 1 will trigger thoughts Ann's questions for the other. How quickly can you get things set up with the other team?? I ended up switching surgeon and hospital a month after dx due to delay and lack of services and the wait was terrible!

Btw, sadly welcome to the site!!

I'd schedule surgery with Team 1 and continue with second opinion. You can always cancel the first surgery. Hopefully that makes sense. I was scheduled for 8/29 bmx and I wanted a second opinion. I ended up switching teams and getting in sooner. I wasn't shopping for an earlier date, it just worked out that way. It helped me to have a date on the calendar asap and just keep pushing forward... like a contingency plan.

Once I made my decision to switch, I cancelled with Team 1.

Editing to say - you can keep testing and getting results while you wait for your surgery date. Keep moving forward but get that OR time reserved.
