Chemo after surgery

Options

I have recurrent breast cancer, invasive stage 1. I also have severe scoliosis with arthritis. I have neuritis in my feet also. Apparently there is some test that shows I have a high recurrence rate. I dont want chemo since I believe based on my other problems I will be physically crippled. Has anybody else ever declined chemo and had success with no further recurrence?

surgery has the biggest impact in terms of overall survival so there are people who did not have chemo and have 5, 10 + years with no recurrence.
You can check your risk of recurrence in this calculator & check it with the various treatment options. https://breast.predict.nhs.uk/predict_v2.1/

Your doctor should also give you recurrence risk predictions and how various treatments affect it. A lot will depend on whether your tumor is hormone receptor positive and if so whether you plan to take hormone therapy.

It depends on the hormone status and HER2 status. Surgery alone cures many, but the problem is that we never know who has had some cells escape. Get a few opinions. Perhaps if they feel chemo is essential they could use chemo protocol such as CMF which most people tolerate better. I'm sorry you're facing the recurrence.
