Excisional Biopsy

Had my needle localization and excisional biopsy surgery on Tuesday for what an earlier core biopsy showed was a complex sclerosing lesion, initially seen as architectural distortion on a screening mammogram.

I'm in more discomfort than I expected. They used glue rather than steri strips, and the excision had to go a little bit deep, they told me, and I think gravity is causing a bit of extra pulling. :) Have a sports bra on, and added an ace bandage as both support and a pocket for an ice pack.

The surgeon told my dad that she thought everything looked good. But with something that isn't a lump, I would imagine it would be difficult to tell just by sight whether there's anything else lurking? When I had the core biopsy, I got a call within 24 hours that it wasn't malignant, so I'm getting nervous now that this is taking longer (same breast center).

Just trying to game it all out, which I know is a waste of time, but the brain wants what the brain wants....

I guess you should get a copy of your original pathology report. I wouldn't read too much into it, but I guess there is always a possibility of something "lurking". I had a benign biopsy finding yrs ago, had it excised and my Dr told me up front that he was 99.9% sure that he would find nothing but benign tissue, which was the case. Hoping you get results soon and they are benign! Try not to worry:).

I was glued also. I found an open front sports bra at Wal-mart I think. Keep wearing your sports bra and ice periodically. Call Dr if it gets red and swollen. They gave me a small round ice pack that fit into my bra. Be careful not to lift anything too heavy. It may take a week or so to feel better. Best wishes!:)

Thank you for the reply! I am feeling less sore today. I added an ace bandage over the sports bra, which has helped. Also trying to be better about not lifting stuff

I missed the call from my surgeon--she said it was benign. Yay! But I'm also a little confused, and so hope to see the final pathology report. Core biopsy showed complex sclerosing lesion, so it sounds like maybe the surgical pathology didn't see any of that remaining? Always one more question needing answering. 😁

Thanks again to you and to everyone who posts here, helping to calm so many nerves...
