edited October 2019 in Waiting for Test Results

Biopsy tomorrow morning and I'm a wreck haven't slept well since I got the news of birads 5 with a 2cm spiculated mass. The waiting is so hard. I've done some research and my chances of being benign is pretty slim. Anyone have tips on controlling anxiety? How long is the wait for the pathology report?

I'm sorry you're here but this website is a great place for support and help and getting through the anxiety of waiting.

Unfortunately you're right, from my experience and from what I've read having a BI RAD 5 is a slim percentage of having a benign result.

My ultrasound was also a BI RAD 5 with 2-cm spiculated mass seen on imaging (MRI & pathology revealed it to be 3cms) . And mine turned out to be cancerous. My call came in after the biopsy on the second day. I sure hope you are one of the few that get a benign result.

Waiting is the worst. Try your best to stay off of Google and try to stay distracted. Find yourself a good movie or a good series to binge watch on Netflix or Hulu. That would be my best advice and how to get through the waiting period. That and of course keep posting here!

Hang in there you are not alone. Best of luck tomorrow on the procedure and benign results! Keep us posted.

Thank you for the quick response. Trying to keep myself busy till results come back. I've always been a planner and everything is up in the air right now, I just hate not knowing.

Good luck with the biopsy tomorrow Ljp.

Waiting is the hardest part. Mine was a 4a and it did turn out malignant unfortunately.

What can I say. Try not to think about it but what can I say it’s hard.

Hopefully you get good news and your results will be benign. It is my understanding that spiculated tumors that are malignant are most often Luminal A with ER+, HER2- and have the best prognosis so either way, I think you will be okay. Prayers and best wishes!

I think my wait was 2 days.

I just tried to stay busy, but really, it is impossible not to dwell on it. My Radiologist had already told me to expect to to be cancer, so I was just waiting for confirmation.

I too had a birads 5. Twice! Once it was cancer and once it was benign. Odds are overwhelming that this is cancer. So preparing for the worst, but hoping for the best, is normal. But the worst has many scenarios. From very hopeful to less hopeful. But it is never a death sentence. So much to deal with, but so much to hope for and so much life to live. One day at a time.

biopsy done! A little sore but not too bad. My primary dr called a couple hours after to check on me and set up appt for monday to go over results, it's going to be a long weekend.

I got a copy of my radiology report while I was there, I knew of 2 masses on the left and a cyst on right, but report show 3 masses on left and multiple cysts on both. I had also been told birads 5 and spiculated mass, but a few other terms showed up and I was wondering if anyone had insight

    Heterogeneously dense

    Hypoechoic mass

    Irregular heterogeneous mass

    Neoplastic process

    Neoplasm

lip, glad you found the biopsy not too bad. Most of the terms you mention are not promising but then again you never know until you get the final report.

I also had my biopsy on a Thursday and got my news on a Monday. It will be a long weekend. Do things you enjoy if you feel up to it. Spend time with family and friends. Lay around. I pretty much had myself prepared when I got the call. I wasn't shocked. But at the same time I just felt numb.

I'm glad you found this forum. Where else can you go day or night and find support and advice if you need it.

Rest and take care of yourself. Thinking of you and sending positive thoughts your way. Hugs, deb

Ljp - Glad you made it through the biopsy without too much issue. Hopefully the weekend will keep you busy and distracted. There is a thread called "Interpreting Your Report" that you could post yours on and get some help from a certified radiologist in understanding what it all means. I went into my biopsy having been told by my US Radiologist that it was most likely cancer and to be prepared for that type of news after the biopsy. I hope you will not get that type of news, but if you do, we are all here. Hang in there.
