Hello, I am wondering if anyone has had what is called HYBRID BREAST RECONSTRUCTION? From what I understand it is a combination of a diep flap and also an implant. I currently have expanders and feel like I am almost done with the fills. I feel like my chest is very thin and there are two big boulders glued to it. I am worried that the implants will look the same with no natural looking slope. I asked my dr. if he does fat grafting and he didn't sound too positive about it saying that the fat can die , etc. So I thought about maybe doing the tummy flap...I have some loose sking but not a lot of fat in abdomen... and then adding a smaller implant. Can't decide if it is worth it to have the hip to hip scar in abdomen ..... Anyone have experience with this?

I don’t know anything about that surgery your asking about but I just had my exchange 10 days ago and the TE are nothing like the regular implants. Thank god!! With expanders I looked like I had two half melons on my chest. I have SCX 800 implants (silicon cohesive extra profile) and love them. They look great, smaller then what I was originally but they look and feel fantastic.

I haven't had it but I've been looking into it because I had DIEP and am significantly smaller than I used to be. You may need to travel to find a PS who will do it, but could be worth it.

Regarding fat transfer after DIEP/implants - yes, it's common and around 50% of fat is reabsorbed. Some risk of cysts/fat necrosis and you're limited to how much you can get at a time. I think my PS said 100cc per breast. That's about the size of a drain, so I'm thinking I'd need around 2-3 of those in each breast with 0% reabsorption. I'm not willing to do 4-5 surgeries so...

I agreed to try fat transfer once. Depending on how that goes, I'll either be done and live with my new smaller set, do it one more time or get implants under my flaps. At times feeling a little deflated about how long this process is, but then I remind myself its cosmetic. The nasty stuff is out of me.

never heard of it...I had 3 rounds of fat grafting to control the reabsorption and gain symmetry with my natural breast....adding fat incrementally can help reduce absorption...but never had any fat die...it is a risk but not necessarily a high risk...

LD1960 - apologies, I cant cut and paste on this darn tablet. Search for my posting on. The Breast Implant 101 thread and look at Whippetmom's response from 9/11. Three links to info on hybrid recon
