Muscle twitching

Options

Hi I have developed muscle twitching in the arm, thumb and thigh for about 4 weeks now and it's increasing to different areas. I know this can be a sign of too high calcium which can be a sign of bone mets, cos Dr Google tells me.

Any one else has this and I wonder if I should see a GP?

Thanks

Muscle twitching was what prompted my to seek medical help 11 years ago. It started in the thumb and spread everywhere. Testing showed I had Hashimoto. Got treated for it, but muscle twitching did not go away. I was then evaluated for ALS, and then settle on benign fasciculation syndrome diagnosis. I learned how live with it and did for long time. Nowadays, two years after cancer treatment they are gone.

Stress is huge for causing fasciculations (twitching).

I would get to the bottom of it and see your GP.

DATNY your description of the twitches sounds exactly like what i am having now and mine started in my thumb too on my left hand especially when relaxed. I read up on Hashimotos and it definitely sounds like a possibility for me. Thanks for taking the time to flag this.

Wally cat - Ah yes, stress I definitely have that in spades mostly caused by the antics of my now 22 year old son.

KBee- yes I have an appointment to see my GP but not until the 26th and that was pre booked for something else. guess I will have to decide which is disease is a priority!.

    Kbee

It's absolutely impossible to get GP appointments within a month here in Britain as the NHS is in a dire state at the moment. we have no way of contacting a GP by email. I will just have to wait until the 26th. My thumb has been going crazy tonight!

wintersocks, you are welcome! Quick question, do you take enough calcium? As I said, my muscle twitching is gone now, but I am on 1000 mg of calcium per day and 5000 Ui vitamin d have been so for one year for osteoporosis.

Magnesium can calm twitching...but it can cause diarrhea.

My muscle twitching/cramping is largely relieved by magnesium. I use several forms of magnesium since sometimes one (e.g., carbonate) works and sometimes citrate works, etc.
