I'm having surgery in October.
-
My BMX (without any reconstruction) is scheduled for October 10th. I was told my drains may come out in less than a week. Two weeks left to prep but I am pretty up to speed thanks to all the comments here! I am so glad I found this wonderfully supportive community!!
-
i haven’t done any prep what so ever. What kind of prep did you do?
-
I think she means getting things ready at home. Some people need to get button-up shirts or nightgowns, easy-pull-on pants, lanyard for drains, or a wedge pillow. And getting things in order if you won't have much help at home - like putting water/milk into smaller containers, getting disposable cups/plates so you don't have to do dishes.
Thinking of you both and wishing you the best of luck with your surgery and recovery.
-
right side MX with sentinel node biopsy and immediate recon. 34 hours away. Hope I’m ready.
-
I'm getting DMx with DIEP reconstruction on 10/28.
-
I'm getting DMX with immediate reconstruction (hopefully direct to implant, but we'll see - otherwise tissue expanders, barf) on October 3. And... I'm kind of freaking out. But ready as I'll ever be.
-
I’m kinda worried about the surgery coming up next week 😬 do we need to buy tight bra after surgery? Does seroma always happens after surgery?
-
As long as all the genetic testing comes back negative, I am having lumpectomy surgery on Oct 28th. Still trying to figure out the best bra to wear post surgery
-
Hi Mallokg, I hope you get good negative results from genetic testing. I just got mine and they are negative so lumpectomy and sentinel lymph node is scheduled next week October 10th. I’m nervous but also anxious to get it done.
I bought a bra that closes in front. Hopefully it helps.

Alto - question for you. How low was your ER less than 15% ? Cuz I’m wondering if I’ll need Tamox as well after surgery since it is Er is weak.
-
Hi, all! I had my pre-op visit yesterday and most of my questions were answered. Eigna and mallokg, they told me to get the Fruit of the Loom Women's Comfort Front Close Sport Bra Style 96014 at either Walmart or Amazon. I am going to be wearing it 24/7 for 14 days. So, I ordered 3 of them from Walmart.
My oncoplastic lumpectomy (in both breasts) is Oct. 10 at 10:30 am. I have to be at the hospital at 6 am to get the dye injection. I know the dye has to have time to circulate, but 4 hours?? I'll be checked in with the IV started so I won't be able to move around. It's going to be a long day in a hospital bed. I'll be spending one night in the hospital, then released the next morning if my pain is under control.
I think this is my silver lining for the whole shebang. With oncoplasty, I get a reduction and a lift. Can't wait to get smaller boobs! However, I'm still nervous about it. Reading all these comments helps calm me. Thank you!
Famous, your day is tomorrow! I pray that you get the direct to implant that you want. Hope it's an easy recovery.

I just noticed there are two October surgery threads. Does anyone know how to combine them?
-
yes BAMR there is two October surgery threads. I don't know how to combine them. Maybe the moderators can help... we are scheduled for surgery the same day....good luck to you

Hi everybody! Well, I'm home from my bilateral mastectomy, and thanks to the nerve block and Norco, I'm feeling okay. My PS was able to do direct to implant instead of tissue expanders, and I'm so grateful for that. I've got four lovely drains, which so far is just a hassle, and I'm trying very hard to just relax and hide out today. It was all a lot less scary than I thought, or maybe I was finally just ready for it yesterday. 💚💚💚 Anyway, I made it to the other side!
-
Hey famousthecat. So happy to hear you made it to the other side. Can’t wait to be on the same side as you 😊. Next week it will be my turn. Try to rest and take it easy.
-
my bilateral masectomy with immediate reconstruction is October 17th. I had BC in 2014 on the same breast so they could not radiate again. My only fear is my plastic surgeons lack of confidence that he can reconstruct a radiated breast well because the skin is fried and tight. I'm going to try not to get caught up in the vanity and just be grateful there is a way to save my life. Good luck everyone.

This is my 1st post. I just had nipple-sparing bmx direct to implant on October 1st. I have 1 drain on each side, which I can't wait to remove and shower. My question is for any others with this exact procedure regarding the appearance post surgery; immediately & in the future. I wasn't prepared to see so much rippling, bumps etc. & freaked out when I saw them for the 1st time the following day. After contacting my PS he said it would take up to 6 six to see the final result due to bruising, swelling etc. Will this smooth out over time? Will some bumps be normal?
-
I thought gummy bear/textured implants were recalled. Maybe just a specific brand? I had a bilateral mastectomy, direct to implant reconstruction, and mine are full of fluid and misshapen at this point (from what I can see under the bandages). I wouldn't worry in the slightest that what you're seeing now is at all what they will end up looking like.
-
Three more days to go before my surgery...I'm so nervous 😟
-
Eigna, it helps me to know we're doing this the same day. What time is your surgery? I'm in Texas and mine is at 10:30 am although I'm having the dye injected at 6:30.
-
Yes!!!we are doing this together!!!!
I don't know the time yet. I will find out only the day before. I will let you know as soon as I know. I know that I need a needle localisation firstso for sure I will asked to go early for that and then I will be queued for surgery. I'm in Eastern time zone so I am one hour ahead from you.Have you asked time off from work?
-
Two days left before surgery 😐...
-
Eigna, I know the waiting can be agonizing, but stay positive. You are stronger than you might think. I hope you have a best friend for support. My BFF is the best-she has driven to see me 3 times already and it it is a 2 hour drive one way for her. She is amazed at how tough I’ve been through all this. She has been the one crying for me, and I have been consoling her! I am a little on the timid side, but this experience and what is to come in the future has made me more determined to fight this. And it will for you too 👍. My favorite band is Tesla (as you can tell by my name) and they have a song called “Hang Tough”. That has been my theme song.
-
Thank you Teslafied for your words of encouragement! 😊
-
I know I felt so stressed and worried in the lead up to my lumpectomy, but in the end it was so much easier to recover from and so much less traumatic than my stereotactic biopsy. You've got this, and I will hope it's just as much a breeze for you, eigna!
-
BAMR... the hospital called. I need to be there for 6:30 am also. They need to do the needle localization first then surgery at 8:45 am. We are doing this together!
-
October 10 is a big day for us - and in Hawaii, I will be doing it after all you on the mainland are long done. I am not having any reconstruction, so hope it will be over fast and I will be cancer-free. That is my wish for all of us - that after our surgeries, we will be cancer-free!
And I have been so busy prepping my home and getting lawsuits in order - I am an environmental activist with two lawsuits which are in an inactive period - that I haven't posted here recently, but my work is nearly done and I am ready to relax post-surgery!
Aloha to all!!
-
Aloha naaluhunet! Wishing you best of luck with your surgery! Yes I hope we all are cancer free after surgery. Positive vibes to all of you!
-
Aloha! I got good news - no other concerning spots following my mastectomy AND we got word today that my dog, who had to have a lump removed from her chest two days before my surgery, also doesn't have cancer. I was going to lose it if my dog got diagnosed with cancer in the middle of all of this.
