Bathing After BMX
Hey community. When did you start bathing again after the surgery? I am dying for a long bubble bath but not sure if its safe. My surgeon sounds a bit hyper-optimistic and gives green light to anything starting first 5 days. I'm at 11th day postop. Thanks.

No soaking/submerging for 6 weeks for me. I could shower after 5 days. I hope your healing continues to go well!

I was told until the drains I had were removed to sponge bathe only. Once they were out though it was ok.
-
I think it was after the drains were removed
-
I could shower like Simone. No soaking until the drains were out and those holes had healed.
-
Same as Simone and Minus two. Those drains had to be out and all areas healed before immersing in water. I only sponge bathed my upper body until the drains were out - no showering even. I think it was four weeks before I took my first shower.
-
I was also told no showers until after my post op visit. I got the clear to shower at that point but no baths. After the drains were removed one of my incisions wasn't quite healed so they said no baths until all wounds were healed. I'm going to take a bath for the first time since my surgery this weekend!

showering also ok for me, but with lumpectomy and bmx no soaking until incisions healed. I don't think you can put a time on that but definitely drain free, glue/sutures gone, scabs off, no leaky spots, etc. Three weeks if all goes perfectly? I'm 5w out and still have a couple tiny spots that aren't quite healed and sealed.
Unless you had DIEP you could probably soak from the waist down!

My PS wanted me showering right away. I showered the 2 days post-op BMX and reconstruction. All 4 drains in and hanging around my neck! No soaking until stitches dissolved and steri- strips fell off.
My PS was big on showering right away and regularly. After all my surgeries.
Good luck on your recovery !!

I showered the day after surgery. I had a shower chair and it felt great just to sit there with the water running. I haven't taken an actual bath in years though so it wasn't even in my radar.
