Chemo For Early TNBC
I have a question to those with early stage TNBC: did you get/recommended any chemotherapy at all? And what was your chemo regimen/protocol? Getting my cancer clinic appointment soon and hoping they won't recommend any chemo on top of bmx. 😓

Hi Chickadee
I have triple negative bc , mine is stage 2b and I'm doing chemo now, my regime is AC+T

Hi chickadee. So sorry you are dealing with this.
My understanding is that for tnbc, it is typical to recommend chemo with tumors of .5cm or greater. That said, my tumor was 1.5cm and my MO was pretty wishy-washy on the issue. I was BRCA negative. Also node negative. After discussion he and I agreed to a regimen of AC x 4, dose dense, along with my lumpectomy and radiation.
Because of your tumor size with tnbc, and the BRCA1+, you might expect a chemo recommendation. Good luck.

Very interesting your question, I did firts surgery 2 months ago and now my chemo is capecitabine, I am currently seeking a second opinion because I understand that with tnbc intravenous chemo is always needed,
-
My chemo was taxotere + carboplatin x 6, every 21 days.
No picnic but doable. There are a lot of TNBC people on this site and a few active threads in the TNBC forum.
TNBC is one of the few breast cancers that it seems some people CAN get rid of permanently-- so it's good to hit it hard in round one.

I had 6 cycles of Taxotere and Cytoxan @ 3 week intervals prior to Lumpectomy. I did not acheive pCR, so 35 rounds of radiation and 8 cycles of Xeloda after surgery.
IV Chemo, Surgery, and Radiation were totally do-able. I worked full time all the way through them. I didn't have as much energy during treatment, but aside from hair loss and some mild food aversions, no really horrible side effects.
Xeloda was more difficult, but overall, glad I did it in my situation.
I hit it hard hoping it will never come back.

I know it stinks but you have one chance to throw everything at TNBC the first time.Chemo is manageable.
-
I had the standard ACT treatment, radiation and xeloda chemo. I would definitely consider it with TN

Hi so_chickadee. I had my final Taxol and Carboplatin today. I completed Adriamycin and Cytoxan prior to that. Chemo wasn't as bad as I anticipated. The oncologists have plenty of tricks to help with side effects. Five months of chemo was not fun, for sure. I have no regrets.
Next for me is BMX likely followed by radiation. DIEP reconstruction will be next year. I take it one treatment at a time.
Best to you.

Seeing that you’re BRCA + and the tumor size, I can’t see them not recommending chemo. My treatment was 4 AC and then 12 weeks of taxol. I was just so devastated when I found out I needed chemo, but then the gears shifted and I couldn’t wait to get started. I just wanted to do everything in my power to fight.
