Waiting for Biopsy This Week

edited October 2019 in Not Diagnosed But Worried

I don't have a lot of information. So that makes everything worse. In July I had a polyp removed from my small intestine - it was pre-malignant. However during the procedure thy perforated my bile duct. I had to have a CT scan where the doctors told me they found a nodule on my left breast. They did a manual breast exam and noted that there was some thickening as well. They referred me to the breast clinic, which I went to last week. I had a mammogram and and ultrasound done. The radiologist came in and said he wants to do a biopsy, And then said the lump is in a location that is not usually benign. So now I am freaking out! I have no other information, except that it is on the lower inner left breast. I have to wait until Thursday. I think I am going to go crazy.

    Dear BassChick,

Welcome to the BCO community. We are sorry for all that you have been and continue to go through. Waiting for answers is the most stressful aspect of following through with any changes in our health, especially as they relate to breast changes. We hope that you will stay active here and keep us posted on what you learn on Thursday. Many here will say to not jump to the conclusion that this is cancer. Once you learn what you are dealing with there will be treatment plans and things to do that will help you with the coping.

BassChick, it’s hard to believe what the moderators are saying when you’re in limbo, but they are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!! So sorry you are in this difficult place but hang on and breathe!!

Thursday is good. I think I waited 4 or 5 weeks. I know it's hard, but try to busy your mind and if you need something to sleep... I'm thinking, go for it, as long as it's ok for you medically. I haven't heard that location comment before. Seems to me both benign and malignant masses occur all over the breast. It's an equal opportunity environment, but wishing the very best outcome!!! Did they give you a BiRADS score on your mammogram?

they didn’t give me any information, but I did see the The ultrasound said rad 5 - at the time I thought it was short for the radius of the mass. I went in not knowing what to ask

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. It sounds like you got in fairly quickly for your biopsy. Please read again what the moderators said. This is such a difficult time, and I know the waiting is very difficult. Let us know the results of your biopsy. There are people on this board who can give you very helpful support.

I had my biopsy this morning. It was with a different radiologist, and he came in and said it's absolutely benign, its a fibroadenoma. 1 in 4 women have this. And I am thinking, so why am I here? So they do the biopsy. He took three samples. Once he was done I asked him why did the first Doctor last week have a different reaction to the images, he just showed me the image on the ultrasound and said it has smooth edges like a child's drawing of the earth and if it was cancer it would look more like a childs drawing of the sun. He said normally for fibroadenomas they keep an eye on it every six months, but they are not going to bother doing that with me.

I will feel much better once i receive the final report next week.

Best of luck to you tomorrow ScaredToDeath2019x, Hope you get a clean bill of health!

    Another update

After being told at my biopsy last week that the lump in my breast is overwhelmingly benign, I got a call this morning that I need to meet with a Doctor next week, I googled the Doctor and she is an Oncologist. I called my family doctor to get the results of the biopsy and they said they haven't received them yet. The breast clinic wouldn't give me the results over the phone. Here's to another week of panic!

My Biopsy was last week Thursday. My family doctor called and said they received a fax regarding an appointment with this Surgical Oncologist, and they know nothing about any Mammogram, ultrasound, biopsy.

It’s incredibly frustrating. My appointment is next Wednesday. I called the breast clinic and I was told to bring a list of previous surgeries and medications with me. They also said to bring someone with me to take notes.

Hopefully you receive your results soon! You should have them this week I would think. Please keep me posted

basschick... I would be so mad if I were you. It's your medical information. You're entitled to it. The radiology place should be able to give it to you. I understand they like to give some news in person, but some of us want to be prepared and not imagine the worst. I've heard of some women walking in and demanding them... up to you of course. We shouldn't have to fight to see what drs are seeing when its about us.

Can your PC call the breast center to push to get them?

and now I'm fired up, sorry. This is the other thing- I know when I'm stressed/upset, I don't necessarily think straight. Yes, bring someone with you, but dammit - I'd want the report so I could read it and be prepared with questions. I would tell them - it will work out better for everyone if I have the report ahead of time...

Sorry, again.... I see this so often and it makes me crazy! The waiting makes us feel like its gonna be the movie scene where the police officer shows up at your door at 2am about a family member. We don't want to be frozen with fear! It's so much better to just get the basics out by phone so we can partially digest it all and show up prepared. Grrrr

Thanks ladies, I’m going to call my doctor tomorrow and ask for the biopsy results again. And if they don’t have them I’ll give them the number to call and get them. My mind is already thinking the worst.

My sister had this same experience and when she finally met w the breast oncology surgeon he wanted to talk w her about taking an AI to help β€œprevent” developing breast cancer because she is a BRCA1 carrier. She graciously declined.

Best wishes to ScaredToDeath and BassChick, I hope you both get positive news!

I originally posted on the board Interpreting your report, I had a biopsy date of Oct 9th but the facility called yesterday and asked if I wanted to go ahead and do it on Friday since there was a cancellation so I jumped on that, the sooner the better! I'm keeping positive for a B9 results!
