Had mastectomy because of 8 cm cancer, recovering, putting in port next week and Oncologist follow up. Stage 3 HER2+ ,Chemo and radiation in the very near future. Mounting bills, no insurance and unable to work. I don't get paid if I don't work. I was wondering if anyone has gone on ssdi for a year and received government assistance for medical bills? How does that work? Depression and anxiety is starting and I don't know what to do. Will discuss time out of work with oncologist and don't know how much chemo will cost. Trying to save my life and not let the bills overshadow my fight. Scared and overwhelmed!!!! Any suggestions or ideas for me will be greatly appreciated. I have worked my entire life and never asked for anything, I don't know if disability is an option.

I'm sorry you're in this situation. Also ask if your medical facilities have low-cost or bridge programs for low-/no-income patients.

Thanks and I am going to get the low cost credit card that includes Doctor and anesthesiologist, the bad part is that the hospital bullies you into it or they don't want to do the surgery! I have no idea how much the chemo and radiation will be. Oncologist and port next week.

If you have a navigator through your oncology department give her/him a call. If not, ask your oncologist if they have a navigator available to assist you with available programs and applying for help. I have insurance but a high deductible and out of pocket max. I'll keep you in my prayers and good luck!

I am thinking of you! I don't have any experience with it, but I know its an option to get on disability income. Check out this link here: https://www.cancer.org/treatment/finding-and-payin...

I'm sure its so hard going through this with the added stress of money/insurance. I can't imagine what you must be going through and I am praying for you and wishing you peace. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help you. <3
