CC, PS Recommendation and indecision re: next steps.
After 7 years I have developed capsular contracture. I have auto-immune issues as well as fibromyalgia and other chronic concerns. I consulted with a PS at U of Michigan. He doesn't feel I'm a good candidate for an exchange (I'm not certain why) but maybe it's my health issues, and the role implants may play in exacerbating them. He feels the risk of recurring CC is high and the area is already compromised. (I didn't have radiation). He suggested a DIEP Flap but I'm uncertain. I'm considering going flat on one side. I'm almost 62, not sexually active but work in a school. Looking relatively normal is important to me because of the kids. I have confidence in this PS but should've asked more questions and am uncertain how to proceed. Anyone have experience with some of these issues and the decisions involved? (I am aware of the breast implant illness group on FB btw). I keep reading and researching but am filled with indecision. MRI next week.

I'm so sorry to hear that you are having these issues and am not surprised that you're struggling with next steps.
You are perfectly justified in following up with the PS you spoke with in order to get answers to any questions you have. You may also want to get a second opinion, even though you have confidence in this one.
I have no similar experience from which to advise you, but wanted to respond and wish you the best.

Im sorry you're struggling! I am facing surgery next and struggle with what to do also.
You can definitely ask your questions of your doctor! If you don't want to take the time for an appointment, you could try emailing your questions and asking for answers. It's worth a try, and may save you some time and frustration, as well as lost work time.

Thank you ladies! I now have a list of questions and a 2nd consultation scheduled. I had a previous consultation with another PS and that was helpful too. My MRI showed a rupture so will be scheduling to have my implants removed. What was helpful to me too was visiting a local shop that caters to women who had breast cancer. They had very pretty bras, lovely camis, showed me prosthesis, just overall made me feel really comfortable. It always is a process isn’t it? I’ll keep reading and trying to become more informed because that usually helps too. At least I have a plan now.

There is nothing easy about any of this! Cancer throws us into a whole new world, where none of us speak the language. It's so hard figuring out what to do. I know my patient care navigator through my local hospital has been a good source of answers, also--sometimes just figuring out the next step is like....I just don't even know what to do. And I always think of my questions after I leave the office!
