Lymph Node Injections

Hello, I’m new here and am really glad I found this forum. I asked this question in a different thread, but thought maybe I should create a new topic instead. My lumpectomy is going to be on Oct 3rd. The day before I’m having the Magseed placement and then lymph node injections, which I’m dreading. I was told to apply the Emla cream 2 hours before I get there. I wanted to know others experiences and if the Emla cream really numbs the nipple area enough, or does it still hurt really bad? I think I can handle the Magseed part ok, because I have had several biopsies that didn’t hurt. Thanks for listening

Hi there. I haven't had the Magseed placement but I did have the lymph node injection before my lumpectomy. You're lucky to be getting the Emla cream, since from what I understand it numbs the lower layers of tissue, not just the skin on the surface. I didn't have anything like that and the injection really, really stings. It's just under the surface of the skin so the cream should make it a lot more comfortable for you. You should do fine.

I didn't have the cream available for that procedure but I've used it for others and it does a pretty good job of blunting sensation. Apply it 2 hours before and if your procedure's delayed dab another coat on. Good luck.

same as above with SNB only and I posted my experience in another thread. My hospital combines lidocaine with the tracer, so it's not so bad. About the same as a lidocaine injection but sting lasts a little bit longer.

I recommend doing a search for magseed, seed snb, etc. Look for the combo of words and you'll find some postings. Lots of posts on this.
