Excellent!
Male breast cancer needs awareness and funding and inclusion. And while that is critically important for our male community, it will beneficial for women too. As more people understand that breast cancer is not exclusively a women's disease but that men get it too, we can perhaps move away from all the pink tatas crap and start communicating and educating about the realities of this disease, for women and men.
My one quibble with the article is that I think more than 1% of research funds should be allocated to male breast cancer since men have been under-represented for so long.
-
Maybe the month of October can switch to male BC awareness. Even though it is rare men do get this, I don't think the average man or woman knows of this.
Awareness makes sense.

Beesie,Yes, we need to play catch up with research, so way more than one percent is appropriate.
Meow13, Yes again, let's ramp up male awareness in Pinktober. I mean, who isn't aware that bc is a women's disease? Yet, awareness levels re men are running at around 50%

"Neediest"? I'm assuming spell-check kicked in... but how did it know? I thought I kept that well hidden.

My male cousin died from breast cancer. I agree that more focus needs to be put on males and breast cancer. I have a BRCA2 mutation as does my mother. I have 3 older brothers, 5 nephews a son and a grand son. They all seem to think it isn't a priority for them and their boys to get tested because society doesn't seem to think that men have breast tissue.
-
Brilee76, Men are being blindsided with this disease and pink charities need to share the blame for putting out such little information about men.. the males in your family need to get themselves informed. I’m a guy with a BRCA1 VUS and a mother who died young of bc. My daughter automatically gets enrolled in an annual screening program, while my son has no such plan for early detection. Both of them have two generations of hereditary bc before them. This is discrimination.

I completely agree. He is at just as high a risk. It's sad to know that he isn't receiving the same opportunities as his sister.
