Prolia copay program $25 injection cost

I have been on aromatase inhibitors since Jan. 2016. I started with anastrozole but I had a lot of bone pain so changed to exemestane in fall 2016. I have had an 8% decrease in bone loss over two years and am almost in the osteoporosis range. I was osteopenia before even starting the medications. They started me on Prolia injections but then my insurance denied the drug and I have been on generic fosamax for 2 years.

In the last two years I have had two fractures. A spontaneous rib fracture and a traumatic patellar fracture. Because of those and the bone loss, my doctor wanted me back on Prolia injections. I just got the first bill. Even though I have met my high deductible for the year, I am responsible for $500 of the $2800 injection fee. Next year I will be responsible for the whole portion because I will not have met my deductible yet.

I decided to search on line to see if I could find any discounts and the company, Amgen, offers a $25 per injection copay program up to $1500/calendar year if you have private insurance (unfortunately not for Medicare or Medicaid). They send you a credit card that they will reimburse you on after you send them your bill and EOB. This is going to save me so much money! I think the doctor’s office should have told me about this when they gave the injection. I just wanted to let you all know that this program is out there. Cancer care is so expensive. Any help we can get is priceless and this is huge for me. You have to reenroll each January. Go to proliasupport.com to register.

Anyone else had such horrible decreases in bone density and fractures? My doctor wants me to stay on exemestane for 10 years but I feel like I won’t have any bone left in a few years. I had never had a fracture before and I am very active- softball, hiking, camping, mountain biking. They tell you to do weight bearing exercises to increase your bone density, but those didn’t seem to help and then I got fractures. Not sure what to do at this point for exercise

I also discovered this co pay card in July of this year My first three Prolia shots were covered in full by my insurance as I had reached my high deductible with all that cancer entailed but in July of this year I would've had to pay as I hadn't reached my deductible yet. My insurance company actually told me about it. It literally took ten minutes to sign up on the phone and I only got charged $25. I was thrilled at this!!! Every little bit counts for sure.

Bookmarking this thread for next spring--just had my first Prolia injection on Friday. Since I've hit pretty much every deductible there is this year, I didn't have to pay anything for this one. But that may not be the case next spring!
