Biopsies tomorrow

Hi everyone. I am glad I found these forums. I have had quite a journey already and I know I am just getting started. I went in for a mammogram weeks ago. I was told that I had dense tissue and needed an ultrasound. After the ultrasound I had to go in for an MRI. I suddenly heard crickets...no news from the radiologist or my doctor so I assumed everything was fine. You know the whole "no news is good news"? Well I had this strange dream that left me feeling unsettled and was the catalyst for me calling both my doctor and the radiologist to get my MRI results. Neither one would give me my results so I called the records office at the radiologist's office and demanded that my MRI results be turned over to me.

They were and what I read left me floored. I have a spiculated mass measuring 6 mm in my right breast and my BIRADS was 4C. I also had a 4A rates mass in the left breast that is likely a cyst. After calling my doctor I got th run around and had to show up to his office in person. There I was able to get my biopsies scheduled for tomorrow (which at the time was a week out). I am terrified and am so upset that not a single person thought to call me and let me know that I should be going in for biopsies ASAP.

Ok, to step out of ranting territory and get to the point...can anyone share any information and having a spiculated mass with a BIRADS 4C? I have that sick in my guts feeling that even though the doctor said I am looking at a 50/50 chance of malignancy I just kind of know it is. I am so anxious...any of your experiences, thoughts, etc. would be so helpful!

wow... I cant believe there was no follow up. Assuming you're already thinking about changing providers, but anyway - to your question. I'm not familiar with the letter staging but I know there was a recent post that explained and I'll try to find it. Without the letter, my understanding is that BiRads 4 has a 20% likelihood of being cancer.

I had a BiRads 4 rating and my stereotactic biopsy showed ADH and some other uglies, but no cancer. However, my excisional biopsy showed DCIS. I'm wishing for the best for you but just want to be honest because this dx/unknowing stage is a roller coaster!

I cant seem to figure out how to cut paste anything here, but the topic was titled "Upcoming biopsy. Worried." and Beesie posted the chart showing the meaning of the Birads categories. I'm so sorry for the anxiety you must be feeling right now.

Thank you HopeWins. I appreciate your responses. I read the discussion thread you mentioned and am still feeling nervous. I am in the midst of finding a new provider but for the time being I am stuck with the one I have. I am sorry you got the diagnosis you did. What kind of treatment are you engaging in for DCIS?

I had a bmx 8/22. I'm very risk adverse and not very attached to my boobs, so it was right for me. Got clean margins and no nodes/finding of IDC so that's it for treatment. I feel very lucky. Just have to rebuild my boobs now!

I had my biopsies yesterday and now get to play the waiting game. I was told I should get my results Thursday or Friday. I am very sore. The stereotectic biopsy required that the core needle go much deeper than we initially thought and I feel like my chest is on fire on that side. The other side was a simple cyst aspiration that is not sore at all. That is likely nothing to be concerned about but the right side is a whole other story. I tell ya, being awake for the entire procedure was not pleasant but the pain and soreness today is really uncomfortable. It's distracting me from the fact that I am waiting to hear whether I won the biopsy lottery or not...I can hear news as early as tomorrow....

I'm sorry the biopsy hurt so much! I hope you are able to take it easy today. Like you said, though, maybe the distraction isn't the worst thing. Hoping for good news for you....

i had a biopsy yesterday also - but not one I expected to have. On a very tiny cyst which was "new."

Started out as a simple routine aspiration but blood came and that is a worrisome sign - so right away she did a core biopsy with 4 punches in that tiny under 1 cent. thing. Seems like it was pretty much obliterated.

I was told that possibly as early as Friday I will get the lab report. There doesn't seem to be very much information about cysts because masses are much more likely to be problematic - I think? So my situation is sort of unusual I guess.

I am 69 and have what is described as "dense breasts." That is an issue I knew about for years but had no idea of the relevance. Better to have fatty breasts because the imaging is much sharper. A mass will show up bright white against a gray fatty background.

With dense breasts everything looks white - so it is like, as I was told, "Looking for a snowball in a snowstorm."

    I wish you the best!

Turns out I am in pain because I developed a hematoma. I guess I just have to be in discomfort until it resolves on its own. I should get my results today or tomorrow and they couldn't come soon enough. I would really just like to know what is going on for sure so that I can better understand what my future looks like. OlgaE69 I ma sorry you had to go through such an experience. It truly is not one that anyone really wants to ever have to have.
