Wound not healing still open

Was the boil on your breast, and have you had a lumpectomy or mastectomy there? If it was me, I'd go to an urgent care center AND get an ASAP dermatology appointment, unless it's related to a prior breast surgery. Then you need to see the surgeon again if it's in the incision.

Try hyperbaric oxygen. My grandmother did it for an open wound and it worked beautifully. I did it after rads and it worked very quickly.

I had to go to a wound center for about six months once. They have prescriptions for amazing concoctions that aren't always available otherwise that healed my open running sores. My insurance at the time made me go through a referral process; I'm not sure if other plans do that. That sounds so uncomfortable!

Try Medi-honey. It is medical grade honey specifically for healing wounds. My mom was bedridden for eight months before she died and one of her home health aides accidentally caused a wound on her back that quickly became the size and depth of your fist. It was horrible.

The wound care specialist from hospice had us try something they had never tried before. She had us wash the wound out with Seaclens then saturate with Medi-honey, pack with gauze and cover with tegaderm.

Within a couple of weeks the wound had gotten so small you barely see it. The hospice nurses were amazed. They had never seen a wound that big heal so quickly, especially as it was in someone whose immune system was so compromised.

My sister and I became big proponents of Medi-honey. I used it after my DIEP flap. and healed faster than any other patient my surgeon had ever seen.

You can find all 3 on Amazon. Medi-honey, Seaclens and Tegaderm. Not very expensive, either.

I second the use of manuka honey. I had a large open wound after my reconstruction. It wasn't infected but just would not heal. It made a huge difference in just a week but still took a while for complete healing from the edges in to the middle.

It is great stuff. Meow. Kinda gooey and messy, but works wonders. I use it after all my surgeries. It hasn't let me down yet.

If you can't find it on Amazon, maybe just Google it.

My my port infected and pitted out. They wanted to mess around with it at the cancer center but my plastic surgeon called the hospital and told them to send me to the wound center.

The wound center was on top of it and handled it far better than the other care I was given

First they debried it then used this sterilized pig alloderm like product (sorry can't remember the name) had it fill in and build new skin. Then applied mepolex to it . I was in chemo so it healed slowly and has a terrible scar. I would day it was 6 to 8 weeks before it was totally covered with new skin.

I was in chemo so it took a lot of time and healed slowly.

Meow, really slam the oral Vitamin C intake. If you have normal kidney and bowel function you can not overdose with Vitamin C. If you ever have more Vitamin C than your body needs you will just have some loose stools. And no, no worry for kidney stones if no prior history of kidney stones, that's an old wives tale.

Without sufficient Vitamin C you will have difficulty making sufficient collagen to heal any wound.

When I was recovering from a surgery incision that wouldn't heal, my doctor had me take as much Vitamin C by mouth, daily, as I could before diarrhea occured. I took a few chewable Vitamin C tabs every hour or so throughout the day and stopped the minute my stomach started rumbling.

I was taking 9 grams of Vitamin C per day at the start. As the healing progressed, I got to that almost diarrhea moment sooner, and sooner, so made a natural taper downwards in my daily Vitamin C dosing.

Went from 9grams per day first 2 days ( spread out over the course of the day) to 7 grams, then 5 grams and then by the time I got to 3 grams Vitamin C per day the healing had made a remarkable improvement. I improved markedly in just a week. All doctors should make sure patients get sufficient Vitamin C dosing while healing. It's a known fact that stress/illness and surgery depletes Vitamin C levels in the body.

You might want to supplement with some zinc and try to eat 100g of protein each day - both are helpful for healing. Edited to add that Bromelain from pineapple or supplemental may also be helpful. There is a liquid supplement that some have used called Juven, you can order it online and find it in some stores.
