Is anyone else an atheist with BC besides me?

ha ha same for me magic.

Hello all! I'm so excited to find this thread. (And several images to feed my Pinterest boards. )
I have been very fortunate with most of the religious people in my life. They ask, "May I include you in my prayers?" which is doubly respectful and considerate.
My boss did offer to do some sort of BC awareness fundraiser for the Komen Foundation. I asked her to choose the Breast Cancer Research Foundation instead. They have a better charity rating, and they haven't sued any smaller charities out of existence for using the phrase "for the cure".
-
Welcome Miranda. Good work getting your boss to support the better charity.
-
Welcome. It's always nice to have someone join our group.
-
Well, I just got chased out of a kidney cancer FB group because I objected to the heavy doses of religion. All I said was how about people who aren't Christian, and could people post the heavily-religious stuff that had nothing to do with cancer on their own pages. Holy shit, you'd think I skinned a live baby and ate it in front of them! I guess we're the last group that it's okay for others to discriminate against. Among other things, I was called hateful. Well, now I am!
Wish I lived in England. Funny, they have a state religion but nobody there gives a rat's ass what you believe. Here, separation of church and state but the evangelicals are out to whip everyone into believing their sick way.
I am pissed.
-
True.
-
Yikes, Alice. One more reason that I appreciate this thread.
-
I just checked. They're still saying nasty things about me (such GOOD Christians!), and praying at me in a very threatening way. 😈 Sheesh.
-
Alice - just write them off. We like you posting here.
-
I like it here, too. Luckily there's another kidney cancer FB group that is more educational, and offers some support. The forum I used when I had endometrial cancer was really good (yay HysterSisters!), but once I was healed and back at work, I gradually drifted away. I didn't realize then that some cancers need longer-term support even after they've been surgically removed. With breast cancer, even the early stage ones like mine, there's life on anti-hormonals, plus the outward reminders of surgery. With the kidney, it's the frequent scans and other monitoring that keeps it constantly in the front of my mind. So I need the long-term support for both, WITHOUT being told I'm some sort of sinner for not drinking the Jesus-flavored Kool-ade.
-
Sorry to hear you went through that Alice. I'm glad you have other more supportive venues, like us.
-
Miriandra… Welcome to this little corner of the world
Alice...what a nasty experience. I second Miriandra, Hoping you feel more support here
I frequently go to and post on the Retreat for peaceful contemplation thread where photos are shared in hopes of creating just as it says...retreat for peaceful contemplation that does not need words.

Hello all -
I’m thrilled to have found this thread! I’m in a recurrence scare at the moment and won’t know until Monday if it’s back. I’m over 6.5 years out but it seems likely.
Anyway, when I saw this thread, I said “Oh thank god” haha. I have always been at least agnostic, then new-agey spiritual, now full blown atheist. I’m beside myself with what the conservative movement is doing to this country. My patience is nearly gone - I keep what I really want to say to myself but it’s getting more and more difficult to stifle.
In most cases, I don't care what you believe as long as you keep it to yourself and off my body and out of my government. Fat chance.
As far as bc goes, I am coping by accepting. When I was first diagnosed, an advisor said, “This is the biggest fight of your life. Say yes to it.” Meaning stop struggling and trying to make it not so. It is so. You don’t have to like it but it is so. So say yes to it then fight like hell. Acceptance is so powerful. Now remind me on my deathbed that I said that and I might tell you to go to hell, haha. I don’t know how “evolved” I’ll be then.
Thanks for letting me ramble. So happy to see like minds and a thread that I don’t have to try to read with my eyes rolling.
-
Hi Lauren, welcome!
I hope your news on Monday is good. Here for you either way. -
LaurenInPHX,
Welcome aboard. If you want to vent about politics with hardly a mention of religion, there is site that is sort of hidden away that you might enjoy. Here's a link. https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/84/topics...
We all know what you're going through with waiting for results. I've had two recurrence scares. I think they were harder on me than the first biopsy that gave me my diagnosis. All I can say is when you feel things building, take a deep breath. It helps.
-
Thanks for the welcome
Ananda, that thread looks like somewhere I belong too. Should be as fun (as that topic can be)
My biopsy is Wednesday (after a three week wait) results Monday, next step debunking surgery then new meds, likely Ibrance & something else. I’d love to be wrong, but with rising tumor markers and an MRI with “worrisome” neck nodes, I’m not going to get my hopes up. I’d rather be pleasantly surprised than blindsided.
We shall see.
Have a great week!

You have fortitude, for sure.

Welcome LaureninPHX. No eye rolling needed here. Very glad you found us. The religious right is very frightening to me as well. No wonder Margaret Atwood's new book is a best seller.
-
I could be on a rant about religion and the rights of LGBTQ in Arizona. Same sex marriage is legal in AZ, however, the AZ supreme court ruled today that businesses do not have to serve same sex couples. Why must people who believe in some sort of god have to insert themselves into the lives of other people. I went to the web site of the company that refused the gay couple service, but did not see any indication on their site that says something like "we refuse to make invitation for same sex couples." Businesses routinely put up signs about no shirt no shoes no service, but I have yet to see any indication that indicate something like "our god says we can't serve gay people." 30% of Americans believe their religious beliefs give them the right to refuse service to LGBTQ people and nearly a quarter of Americans believe they have a right to refuse service to atheists! If you look at the research, it is obvious that their is hardly a segment of marginalized society that religious people do not feel compelled to discriminate against while talking about being 'blessed.'
-
Back to the basics.
-
ananda - Love that! Especially since I have some very liberal friends who host a regular tac bight!
Lauren - Welcome! Any news on the recurrence issue? I've got a brain CT Friday to rule out what I hope is just an incidental finding from a bone scan. We never get to just let it go, do we? But I am so with you on being beside myself with our bloody country. What the hell is wrong with us? I just can't believe that in spite of everything, the hard right is holding power.
-
Thanks wanderweg! Biopsy is tomorrow...finally...after waiting three weeks, then results on Monday. If bad, then neck surgery next to remove nodes and new treatment. If good, I'll be cautiously optimistic about my scans in December, but this 5+week scare has been exhausting.
Best of luck with your CT Friday! And no, we really can't let anything go. It's a helluva way to live, but hey, better than the alternative.
I'll be looking forward to your GOOD NEWS results.
As for the country, just when you think it can't get worse, now they want to reboot The Princess Bride. That's the true definition of blasphemy.
-
Not Princess Bride!
-
NOOOOOO!!!! What beanbrain thinks they can improve on perfection?
-
I wish there were Like buttons. So many things needing !!
Best of luck, LaurenInPHX and wanderweg. I hope y'all get positive news. )))))good vibes(((((
-
Y'all ready for some good news? My oncotype came back in the 97.8% non-recurrence category. My lymph node was clean, so NO chemo and NO radiation recommended! I've started OT for getting my range of motion back after surgery, but I could be done for a good long while.
I know others have a harder road to follow, and I wish us all the best of luck and care. But I hope we can celebrate the normal things too.
-
Miriandra,,

Wonderful news! Give yourself a treat.
