Possible recurrence

I am curious, has any of you being diagnosed with recurrence with normal C15-3 and CEA levels?

My mother just had mammogram 7years after her initial diagnosis and some shadow not see before 17*8mm was found, bi_rads 0 and she needs to do ultrasound.

Is it possible this is recurrence even when borh of these tumor markers are normal?

My understanding is those tumor markers aren't all that reliable. Mine were normal when I had a 7cm tumor.

That said, that doesn't mean your mother has a recurrence. Just that tumor markers aren't a very reliable indicator. The ultrasound will be much more reliable - hope they can do that for her fairly soon. Hoping for good results for her!

Ok, I actually missunderstood.

Mammography was done on the other breast, the one on which was not mastectomy performed.

So, if this shadow turns out to be something it is more likely to be new primary cancer than recurrence as new breast is concerned.

Nothing will be certain until ultrasound.

Just to post good news. My mom went to ultrasound and nothing was found. Seems like there was a mistake on mammograph.
