Thank you all ladies! My US shows a PCR in my armpit. The tumor is almost invisible. So my SO have the last word.

My MO says in Argentina there is not the technology to analyze nodes during surgery. 😢

I had 15 lymph nodes removed during my mastectomy surgery on July 30, 2018 so far I have not developed Lymphedema. I did see a Lymphedema Physical Therapist during all my chem treatments (20 weeks) who taught me exercises to help keep Lymphedema at bay. I saw her once a week and did my home program everyday and still do. Be beautiful and be healthy

I had 8 nodes removed and radiation to the armpit and have not developed lymphedema. I am 8 years out from treatment.

Paintersdream a SelenaWolf - thank you and many many health years!

My own contribution. Today at the hospital y met a man who has 18 armpit nodes removed because he has a melanoma in his shoulder about six years ago. He is fine and he never heard about lymphedema. Good bless him!

BUMP!

I had 14 axillary nodes removed in 1999 and haven't developed Lymphedema.

Tmh0921: thank you for sharing! I've seen that you are scheduled to have a surgery on July, I wish you good luck and a full and easy recovery! HUGS

I had 11 nodes removed in 2005, and I went 14 years without developing lymphedema. I was careful. Over the summer, however, I reached into a small space behind my bed, got my fat arm stuck, and bruised my arm really badly! The funny thing is that I was in the middle of chemo for my other breast at the time. It's very minor. I don't know if I even would have noticed if I hadn't gone in to see a PT in preparation for that second mastectomy. But I digress.... lymphedema is not a given. If you protect your arm from blood pressure cuffs and other possible types of injury, I think it's possible to avoid it.

I had 21 nodes removed 8 years ago and never developed lymphedema. I even participated in a 2 year lymphedema study, which found no problem.

CoppersMom: Thanks for rescuing this thread from the bottom of the can! I'm in my first days of radiation so I"m constantly watching my arm ...
I'm sorry you are dx again, and you also have lymphedema now ... but fortunately you caught it early.
I wish you a full recovery. HUGS ❤
Pupmom: Congratulations, 8 years out and without lymphedema! And your puppy is a toy😊

Sonia, thank you! I follow you and others surreptitiously on the fenben thread.

As posted above, I had 14 nodes removed in 1999, with no lymphedema. I just wanted to update to add that I had a BMX, with Latissimus dorsi flap on my left side, and Bilateral tissue expanders. They also took an additional 2 nodes on the original side where I had the 14 nodes removed in 1999. I was seriously expecting all of this surgery and disruption to trigger lymphedema, but so far all is good.
