iamacat..
Have you tried cold therapy during chemo?
I wear ice socks and gloves and also eat popscicles amd ice chips during chemo. Seems to help with Mouth Sores and nerve pain in hands a d feet.
magic mouth wash helps me with mouth sores, equal maalox and liquid Benadryl with a little bite of liquid orajel or have MO send in script for Liquid Lanicaine and swish that Benadryl and truly helps
After every meal I swish with water, baking soda and salt... I still have sores but it is tolerable.
Hang in there, looks like your almost done!
I have 2 more rounds of AC and then a other 2 rounds of THP ..

@Flnana2: are your treatments every 3rd Wednesday, starting this coming Wednesday? If so, we will be sitting in the infusion chair at the same time (or, at least, the same day). What made my first day a lot easier was bringing a loved one as well as a cooler full of snacks and drinks and telling myself it was like a picnic at the beach. I am going to start taking the advice of sucking on ice chips at my next infusion because, yes, the mouth sores are EXTREMELY painful. I wish I could put ice chips in my nostrils to avoid the pain there, too. Well, I could, but it would just make chemo day much more uncomfortable. I might try that, or maybe put a small ice pack against my nose, for the taxotere and carboplatin section of my infusion.

Kimmh012: hmm...those some things to try for the next chemo round!

Cycle 2, day 19
July 21, 2019
I did pilates for the first time yesterday, and it wasn't that bad. I got a nice burn in my abs, glutes, and legs, staying away from the arms and chest to avoid lymphedema.

Cycle 3, day 1
June 24, 2019
I feel great, but the steroid pre-meds are keeping me up.
-
Cycle 3, day 2
June 25, 2019
I still feel pretty good.

Cycle 3, days 3-5
July 29, 2019
Ok, so the past 2 days were kind of hard. Today, day 5, is a little better. I woke up on day 3 to make a bowel movement, and upon wiping, I found a smear of blood on the toilet paper. I was startled. Throughout days 3 and 4, I felt terrible. I had a general feeling of discomfort that is difficult to explain: a mixture of nausea, fatigue, dizziness, heat intolerance, and aching. I was too weak to cook. Luckily, a relative came by with enough food to last me for a few days.
On day 3, I had something new: slight numbness in the tips of my fingers. I had always had some rawness in my fingertips during chemo, which I attributed to my skin being more sensitive and prone to being worn by daily activities, but the numbness startled me because I realized that the one time I had not iced my fingers, lo and behold, I get numb fingertips. The numbness went away by day 4, luckily, but it taught me to keep icing for the remaining cycles.
On day 3, I also had numbness in the balls of my feet and the pads of my toes, but it was less than cycle 1. I have been using ice slippers consistently.
One new thing I tried during chemo: sucking on ice. Let's see if it helps with the mouth pain.
Day 4 was basically the same as day 3.

Cycle 3, day 6
July 30, 2019
I woke up today with a raw chest and my nose water was a little bloody. It's time to set up the humidifier at night. Also, I have pink eye again!
-
Cycle 3, day 8
I have no mouth sores yet. What changed? Two things. I rinsed with saltwater a few times a day as advised by my MO, and I chewed on ice during chemo.
-
Cycle 3, day 9
Hm. No Perjeta diarrhea yet.
-
@ IAmACat- you poor thing! That sounds pretty miserable! I do hope that the icing and mouth rinse continue to help (& hoping they keep me from the same fate!)
-
Cycle 4, day 3
I don't feel good and my pee is brown. Yesterday, day 2, I started getting a raw chest, then the Neulasta injected and I knocked out and was too weak to exercise and do the dishes.
-
@IAmACat- drink lots and lots of water! It's OK to let yourself rest, your body is fighting hard. It sounded like the diarrhea was much improved for your 3rd cycle- did you do anything different to help prevent it?
-
@HeartShapedBox: I didn't do anything differently regarding my diarrhea. I have no idea why I am not getting it anymore. At first, this might sound silly, but I thought my guts had adapted and become resistant to the Perjeta...and then...fearful thought...if my guts can do that, then what about the cancer??? Well, I know the second part happens, very unfortunately, but I don't think my guts did that.
Cycle 4, day 10
My mouth and nostrils hurt like heck. There was one hot day, maybe day 8, when the temp hit 100 degrees, and then all my side effects seemed to come back. I was so fatigued, I couldn't leave the house.
-
Cycle 5, day 3
I feel good, but this is supposed to be my bad chemo day. The lack of side effects, while good, is unsettling. On top of that, very fine hairs started growing back all over my head. Regarding the hair, my MO assured me that that did not mean I was not getting my full dose of chemo.
