Waterproof sleeve for showering with wrapped LE arm.
I originally joined this board shortly after being diagnosed back in 2003. It has been about ten years since I have been active on here. Some of my friends from back in the day, are still here. I came back to give info on a waterproof sleeve that has worked better than any of the others I have tried. I developed LE around 2007 and after years of using green trash bags taped around my arm, so as not to get the LE bandages wet, I found this great heavy duty waterproof sleeve with a long stretchy band that you wind around the top and Velcro in place. The top of the sleeve has an elastic band that will easily stretch open wide enough to pull over bandages from your hand, up to your shoulder.
It did not occur to me to post about this sleeve, until mine wore out and I couldn't easily find anymore. The only other kinds I initially found were poorly made, not very good at sealing out water and a ridiculous price. I finally found the kind I used to have after finding original literature pkg. and googling their website. It gave me phone number. When I first found this wrap, it was sold in many different kinds of stores. Now this company mostly just sells through hospitals or will sell via phone, to individuals. I contacted them and after paying, I received it about a week later. They are based in Orlando, Florida and I am in Texas. The delivery time will probably vary depending on where you live.
If you want to order one to use on your arm, order the waterproof “leg sleeve". It will cover from your hand up to your shoulder. Their arm sleeves only go as high up to just above one's elbow. These sleeves weren't made specifically for covering LE arms that are bandaged up to one's shoulder. They were made more to cover broken arms or legs in a cast or similar reasons for partially wrapped arms and legs. Unless you only wrap your leg no further higher than your knee, this won't work as it isn't long enough to cover any further up your leg
I have no business connection to this company or financial gain in posting about this sleeve. Just know the frustration I endured for years before finding this particular product. Dealing with LE is hard enough without the hassle of either unwrapping your arm before taking a shower or having to tape cumbersome bag over your bandages and hope they don't get wet or that the tape doesn't take your skin off when you peel it off.
I found the price to be very reasonable compared to other kinds of sleeves I tried or investigated. My first ones lasted a few years before finally wearing out from pulling it on and off everyday. The others I looked at, were listed for using only a minimally short period before they would deteriorate.
This sleeve is made and sold by MedGuard. The customer service number is 800 - 713 - 1133. Or you can google them yourself and go from there. I explained I was looking for waterproof sleeve to go over my LE bandages and I think they call this sleeve, an “ X Bandage Wrap “. I spoke with nice lady named Patty Anne Lavelle. I think it is small company and she is the one who mostly handles orders.
Anyway, just wanted to put this out there and hope it is of value to others on this board. I am over sixteen years out from when first diagnosed with BC. No recurrence so far. I live with LE and recurring Cellulitis but everyone has something! I guess my status would be, “ Old “ “ Oldie" ! My secret to success? Pays to be a tough old broad and a lucky one! So any newbies out there, hang in there.
Life can be a parade. Just look out for the elephants bringing up the rear!

For those of you contemplating wrapping for new LE, or veterans of LE who wrap for flares, this can make your life easier!
Thanks, Niki!
We're all so creative--please post any other ideas you've come up with for dealing with wrapping.

I came back to post additional info on this waterproof sleeve. I spoke to lady connected to the company that manufactures this product. I knew this product as MedGuard. She said it is actually listed under BathGuard. If you google BathGuard.net, you can see picture of what the sleeve looks like and will give you better idea of whether it is something you may want to try. The sleeve is of thick material and stands up from long time use. At least it did from my using it.
Like I stated previously, the leg sleeve covered from my hand, up to my shoulder. Their arm sleeve not long enough. Hope this additional info is helpful.
Best Wishes To All,
Nik
