skin changes
Hi all, diagnosed with triple negative metastatic right breast cancer. Stage 3. It has been a tornado month of July, Chemo started 8/9, TC. I have noticed a lot of skin changes since the first chemo. Anyone else? I'm 62 had really nice skin, now very dry, and leathery. Any suggestions? Second round of chemo this Friday the 16th. Still have my gorgeous locks, soon to go, but even my hair texture has changed.

Hi all,
Just wanted to update you all if you are receiving Taxol. Be very careful in sun Use a very high SPF, I broke out is a funny rash that oncologist sent me to derm, for biopsy. Only on lower legs V of my neck and arms. Turned out it was from sun exposure. I always use SPF of 30, and 70 on face. Now long yoga pants and long sleeve shirts. I have a couple of the Columbia ones that have SPF also built in. Since I've been wearing them rash is fading. The rash was red dots, non itchy, but annoying. Biopsy report next week. Just and FYI. I live in warm climate

Thanks for the heads up. I use sunscreen daily 50 spf higher on face, I think overall it helps to make screen part of the daily getting dressed ritual - if I tie a healthly habit to my daily routines it really helps them to stick and become a daily part of my life. I will make sure to be extra vigilant as I start Taxol ( on the plus side will have it during the fall so skin will be exposed). Hope you are feeling better!

Three weeks ago I rather suddenly got lots of flat red spots on the tops of my lower arms. They are non-irritating and don't itch. MO does not think they are petachiae. Steroid cream has not helped. Some of the spots are getting larger and I now have some starting up on my legs, one spot does feel a bit sore. I have not been out in the sun and keep my arms/legs covered when leaving the house. I work with the public so am careful to keep covered at work too - for appearances sake.
Just completed week 6 of 12 herceptin/taxol.
Any ideas?

I had to have one of them biopsied, find out report next week. Now that I'm using 70 SPF and are covered, ones on lower legs fading

Martaj I'll be interested to learn what you find out. I have an appointment with a dermatologist that specializes in skin issues relating to chemotherapy next week.

My biopsy results just showed a medication reaction. Likely source Taxol. My extremities don't itch but my scalp is full of sores, so wearing a wig is out right now. Just scarfs and such. I did extensive research on the NIH (National Institute of Health) and this is a common side effect of taxol. Might have to have dose adjusted to a lesser. Besides being bald, sores on head and red dots over arms and legs I'm quite a site. My derm did prescribe a steroid cream for my dots and sores, so far does help the scalp. He also will be in contact with my Oncologist concerning being put on prednisone orally for a trial course if applicable. Hope this helps Marta

Last Taxol tomorrow 12/12, Thank god!!!! My finger nails are now turning brown and starting to get misshapened. My toenails hurt! So glad to have phase 1 overwith. I have received 12 Taxol, 4 carboplatin, and every 3 weeks trial drug/placebo. On to phase 2 of 4 AC along with trial drug/placebo. My skin still looks terrible. Still have spots, some peeling, my scalp has just a few areas. Skin pale and unhealthy looking. Can't wait to have chemo overwith
