I am scheduled to have an MRI for a clear breast discharge that has changed to bloody. The scheduler from my BS office said that afterwards they will schedule a lumpectomy. Is that the same as a duct excision? I'm confused. TIA

Those are 2 different procedures but my guess is the BS's office people are so used to saying "lumpectomy" to their patients that it just came out.

By definition a lumpectomy is the surgical removal of a cancer, often a palpable lump, hence the name. So far you have not been diagnosed with a cancer I assume. The little growths in the ducts that cause nipple discharge are usually benign but are routinely removed surgically.

Thank you for the reply. These past few months have been crazy.
