I understand your fear and anxiety. BIRADs scores gives everybody the willies. I'm going to give you a link to Moose & Doc BIRADs interpretation. I think they give the most user-friendly explanation of BIRADs. Your BIRADs 4 score is actually pretty good. Only 20-30% chance of malignancy, as opposed to BIRADS 5, which is 95% chance. Soooo, I know that 20-30% chance still sounds bad, but turn it around and you have 70-80% chance of BENIGN results. Dang! That's pretty good. If you had 70-80% chance of winning the lottery, you'd be buying a ticket every day! Well, I'll be hoping you win the BIRADs lottery here.

Hi Llamamom and welcome to Breastcancer.org,
We're so sorry you're here and worrying, but we're glad you've found us. As you can already see, our Community has lots of amazing members, always willing to lend advice and support.
As mustlovepoodles points out, you still have a very good chance that there is nothing to worry about. Just try to stay positive and keep your mind busy until you get your biopsy results. We'll all be sending good thoughts your way!
Keep us posted,

Hi LlamaMom1,
Im in the same boat as you, BIRADS 4, but from a contrast MRI, not a mammo. I too am awaiting biopsy, and like you, I have been crying daily since last Tuesday when the ARNP at the doctor’s office called me. Glad to know I’m not alone with the crying before I know anything. There’s a lot I don’t know, and won’t know, so why cry and worry, right? Easier said than done. Today, I’ve arrived at the conclusion that the crying headaches and the puffy eyes are not making this any better. I went to my happy place yesterday, which involved spending money I probably shouldn’t spend on flowers to plant in the yard and in hanging baskets—haha. That definitely helped me feel better. Here’s hoping we have a clear head until biopsy day.
Hugs to you xo,
-Hopscotched1

Just some advice. Go out and do something FUN between the tests and appointments and procedures. It really helps. And whatever happens, you'll have good memories mixed with the crappy ones when you look back on all this.

Agree with AliceBastable --don't stop living your best life while you're waiting for this. Keep doing your normal activities, clean the house, cook a good meal, if you have a partner, give em a kiss. In other words, keep living. And once you get the news, even if it's not the news you hope for, take a moment or three, feel your feelings and then keep living your life.It really does help.
For me personally, if I get stuck in the worry loop then I feel like I've given this disease even more control over my life. NO THANKS.

Just found this thread... I was given a birads 4 score as well based on my MRI. Measured 1.2 cm, upper left breast Scheduled for biopsy this Thursday... can’t wait for answers. The anxiety is awful.

So glad I found this thread.....I've also been crying and worrying also. I had an ultrasound a couple of last week and I was given a birads 4 also. Now I'm just waiting for results from biopsy. Here are findings from ultrasound:
Irregular hypo echoic mass with no circumscribed margins. It measures 2.1x1.1x4.2 cm. No posterior shadowing. An ovoid component of the mass corresponds to the finding as seen on screening mammogram.
Has anyone gotten their results back?

BIRADs 4 s given when a biopsy is recommended. So almost everyone who is sent for a biopsy will have a BIRADs 4 on their imaging.
- BIRADs 3 represents imaging that shows something that the Radiologist estimates to have a less than 2% chance of being cancer, so short-term follow (usually another mammogram/ultrasound in 6 months) is recommended.
- BIRADs 4 represents imaging that shows something that the Radiologist estimates to have between a 2% to 95% chance of being cancer, so a biopsy is recommended. Approx. 30% of BIRADs 4 biopsies turn out to be cancer while approx. 70% end up benign. Sometimes BIRADs 4 is assigned as being 4a, 4b, or 4c, which presents a more defined range of risk.
- BIRADs 5 represents imaging that shows something that the Radiologist estimates to have a greater than 95% chance of being cancer, and of course a biopsy is recommended.
