Question About Trelstar
Hi there!
Apologies if something similar has been posted before- I am learning how to use the message boards, but...
I was hoping to hear the experiences of others who received Trelstar shots- what were your side effects, how long did they last, how long after stopping did it take for your period to return? I got a shot every 3 weeks and I had about 5 shots total.
The hot flashes, night sweats, and insomnia are making me miserable. I begged my doctor to stop the shot and she agreed. It has been five or six weeks now and no relief, or period, yet (I am 27).
Just trying to figure out what to expect. I’m desperate for these side effects to end

I had never heard of Trelstar so I had to google it. Currently it appears to be used most often to treat advanced prostate cancer, but it does appear to have been used for breast cancer (ovarian suppression) though more current drugs have replaced it. Lupron and Zoladexcome to mind.Did you search for other threads about this drug? Just because I didn't know about it doesn't mean there isn't someone here who does 😊. Take care

My dh got 2 shots, 6 months apart for Prostate cancer. It was hideous, and he refused any more. He’d get hot flash, looked like he was in shower. Just awful. Didn’t know women could use it, learn so new every day.

I’m sorry to hear he had such a terrible time with it. Do you happen to remember how long the side effects took to stop after his last shot
-
My infusion nurses refer to it as Lupron but on all of my paperwork it’s Trelstar
-
That’s strange because they are not the same drug. Lupron is leuprolide and Trelstar is triptorelin
-
Was at least a month, maybe 6 weeks. That was without any other meds.
-
Thank you! I am about at that point now. Hoping for some relief soon! I have noticed acne and mood swings the past couple weeks which was telling me maybe my hormones are starting to come back

Harrison,
So have you figured out if you are getting Lupron or Trelstar? Both can be used for ovarian suppression, but they are not the same drug. This distinction could be important if you think switching to another drug would lesson side effects. But you would need to determine which one you’ve already tried.

I suppose it doesn’t much matter which it was, I’m not going to be getting anything else instead. We stopped it completely a while ago in order to stop the side effects
