Hello,

I was diagnosed last month with IDC. Surgery is scheduled for the 29th.The breast surgeon ordered 3 CT and MRI of my breasts. The MRI came back that I had a second spot on the same breast. Now they want to biopsy that one. Anyone in this position? Having another biopsy sucks! Those things are painful.

What's the chances this will also be IDs? I have small breasts. If they take two lumps I won't have much left. At what point is it no longer a lumpectomy?

I had this happen to me. I needed an MRI guided biopsy for the second spot, but luckily it was benign. In my case a second IDC would have resulted in mastectomy.

Hi Sara, yes, my MRI found 2 extra worrisome areas. One was a second cancer, another wasn't. MRI is rather famous for picking up lots of things that end up being nothing, but then again, it was the only imaging that caught my 2nd cancer. Try not to worry too much in advance, and remember it's good to have solid information....takes time to get it. Good luck.

Since you are opting for a lumpectomy, it makes sense that they'd biopsy the second one.

My MRI found a tumor in my other breast, which they also decided to biopsy although by that point I wanted a BMX.

Your surgeon will tell you how disfigured they expect the breast to be after they take out whatever needs to come out. For me, my tumor was large enough that my small boob was going to be pretty messed up looking. So I opted for the mastectomy (and then later decided on BMX).

Some people would rather keep their original breast no matter how much material is taken, while I was not tied to my originals, I wanted symmetry and for them to look as normal as possible.
