Rise in Cost of Arimidex from Arimidex Direct

Options

I just received a notice from Eagle Pharmacy that they are doubling the monthly price of Arimidex, manufactured now by ANI. Does anyone else use Ariimidex Direct, and how are you responding to this cost increase?

Yes I received email yesterday as well. I was/am upset about it. I switched back in March to brand Arimidex from generic and am doing so much better on the brand name. I checked with my insurance company and they said if I want brand name through them it would be over $1300.00 for 30 days. It’s ridiculous. Not sure why price has doubled through Eagle. I looked on the website and it just says price now is $2 per day. All for a drug that probably costs pennies to manufacture. Unless it has something to do with new import tariffs 🤷‍♀️ Just a guess but who knows. I spoke to my oncologist office today and they are going to see if they can get my insurance company to approve brand name Arimidex as I’m having so much less side effects on it than the generic. Not sure if that will work though.

it’s interesting. I was using a generic arimidex and paid a small copay. Switched to tamoxifen and it is 100% covered by my health plan. Considered “preventative”. I do not know why arimidex is not considered preventative and tamoxifen is. Would suggest asking your insurance provider.

Generic Arimidex (anastrozole) is covered for sure under insurance. The brand name Arimidex is what’s not covered. People tend to do better on brand name or at least I do and my insurance will only pay for generic.

I suspect the price increase is due to the change in manufacturer. The British company AstraZenaca, the original manufacturer, created the discounted Arimidex Direct program. Now the drug is being manufactured by the American company ANI.
