Tattoo over scar

Hi everyone !

Being done with reconstruction for a few months now, I decided to not have my nipple redone and cover my scars with a big badass tattoo. Let me just say that I never had one done but always dreamt about it. I do believe this is the perfect opportunity to get it done šŸ˜„

But where ? By who ? For my husband's work, we just moved to Michigan where I don't have any friends or group support who could help me figure this out. I'm definitely looking for an artist well recommended, with experience in tattoo over scar.

Do you have any idea where I can find that kind of recommendation ?

Thank you !

I don't have any information, but I'll be watching this thread. I'm also considering a tattoo (or tattoos). I just had my BMX last week, and still have chemo, expander fills, implant exchange, etc. to go. When it's all done, I want to have a design picked out.

Go to the main part of this site and type in nipple tattoo. You will get 31 responses. If you spell it with an s at the end, you will get only 17 responses. Check out Vinnie Meyers for sure. He’s always getting rave reviews.

    Best of luck!

Thank you very much for your answer.

I am not looking for a nipple tattoo though but for what's been called a mastectomy tattoo šŸ˜‰

I found one artist in Chicago, 5h away from me but he's asking for $1800-2800 for his work !! That's way way more than what I was thinking about !!

Hi, just joined! have been interested in this route for years though I have not done it ( considering another surgery which will be in another thread, to either have implants placed above the muscle or go flat)

Check out the community around Personal Ink, or p. Ink. They have been bringing together artists and survivors for many years. I heard about it the first year and went to the first P.Ink Day, it was amazing. Their guideline is two years since surgery as the skin and scar are healed enough. There are events yearly in many locations.

They share a lot of pictures on Pinterest, and I searched hashtag Mastectomy Tattoo and similar terms on Instagram. Amazing what's out there, and looking at all this really educated me, I keep a folder of artists for when the time comes.

There may be other groups doing this. There are certainly a lot of individual artists experienced and devoted to this work. I'm going to choose one with a calling for it. I don't remember names but I may have seen some who do survivors at a good price. Best luck!

I've seen some impressive looking tattoos on this site which makes me want to take the plunge. I've googled around and it seems that some people have experienced swollen lymph nodes near tattoo sites. Has anyone researched tattoo inks? Are any safer than others? What about nano particles, heavy metals, etc. I've read that some particles do reach the lymph nodes, but do they cause serious problems? Mods: do you know if there havebeen any scientific inquiries or studies on the subject? Thanks

    Hi Sara!

We don't have any research news article on this topic, we're sorry! But you can learn more on What's the difference between inks used in the doctor's office and tattoo shops? in the Vinnie Myers blog from our main site. He is a tattoo artist who specializes in 3-dimensional nipple tattoos for women who have had mastectomy and/or reconstruction. We hope this helps!
