Hello all,

Over the last couple of months, I have become increasingly concerned about possible breast cancer.

It started with pain here and there, I’d feel it in the same spot for a while and it would go away only to reappear a bit later.

About two weeks ago, the pain became constant and spanned the entirety of the same breast (left). I made an appointment with my doctor, who told me it felt to her like about 10-15 cysts and ordered a bilateral ultrasound for this coming week.

In the last five days, I have gone from bad to worse. The pain went from bothersome at best to crippling at times. Sleeping is almost impossible. My breast is hot and swollen. I have fibrocystic breasts so I cannot feel any lumps, and I cannot tell if the texture is different but the left is significantly bigger than the other due to all of the swelling. In addition, my nipple has now become extremely painful to the touch. This is real, sharp, stinging pain I’m in! All day long!

My ultrasound is in a couple of days. I am so anxious that nothing can be done. I don’t drink coffee, I cut out sugar a long time ago, and I have been doing everything my doctor recommended for pain. I’m at a loss. It doesn’t sound like cancer or fibroids or cysts... please if anyone has an inkling as to what this could be, I’m desperate!

    Dear natalieisworried,

We are so sorry that these breast changes and the worry that accompanies them have brought you here. We hope that others will chime in and offer some of their experiences. Most here will say that the unknown and the worry about changes and breast symptoms is so very stressful. We hear how anxious you are. Please don't jump to the worst conclusion. Know that you are doing the right things and that you will hopefully learn what is going on soon. Keep us posted.
