HI Ladies

Anyone out there who has used Dr. Jing Zhang ?

looking for a surgeon who does the one step, direct to implants?

I had Dr.Boyd but she longer does breast surgeries, my daughter wants to do a prophylactic mastectomy due to her BRCA2 positive status.

thanks for your help

hi there - I had Dr. Boyd also, direct to implant 6 years ago.... the implant hasn’t held up well so im going in to have it removed and replaced with flap surgery in 3 weeks with Dr Simon Frank, Dr Boyd’s referral. I’ll let you know how it goes!

I wish you all the best with your surgery. Dr.Boyd's office has referred me to Dr.Frank as well. I would love to know how it goes. My cousin is also looking to have flap surgery as her radiated side is not holding up well. Looking forward to hearing back from you.

hi - so I’m 4 days post op, had the surgery Friday, and things are going really well. Dr. frank did a great job.

Dr Boyd “recommended” the diep when I first had my surgery, I use quotes because you know they’ll never outright recommend but she was definitely leaning that way, I was too chicken and went with direct to implant... now that I’ve had this surgery I can honestly say I should’ve listened better! The recovery has been way better so far. Some things are more difficult (3 drains instead of 1) but mobility, nausea, pain etc all much better. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m in pain and walking around like a 98 year old (my kids say I look like the letter C) but overall I can absolutely see why this is the recommended option for reconstruction. The operation was great, the anesthetist was amazing almost no nausea (and 100%no vomiting) post surgery, the new boob looks a little odd at the bottom right now, but it’s still very swollen. Dr Frank was in to see me both Sat and Sunday in hospital (I was realeased on Monday) and he said he wasn’t totally happy with his balancing work but that he thought he could smooth things out in his clinic, he seems to be a perfectionist! I’m still just amazed by the procedure, the new boob is soft, feels natural (not like the tennis ball I’ve had attached to my chest for the last 5 years) and isn’t even bandaged, just steri strips on the suture! Crazy. The stomach suture is sore, and there’s some odd numbness at the top of my abdomen (which is expected) but I’ve had two c sections and it’s a similar type of pain, just a bit tighter feeling like it’s hard to straighten up.

At this point I would say that Dr. Frank is an excellent substitute for Dr. Boyd.... and those are big shoes to fill!

I’ll keep you posted as I progress through the process. If your daughter or cousin has any questions given I’ve done both direct to implant and DIEP, let me know.

    Hi OM12

Congratulations on getting through the DIEP surgery. I am so happy that all is going well for you. What a relief to have a natural feeling breast(s) again. I have textured implants and one side is so tight and they feel stiff and hard. I have been thinking about swaping them out for smooth round implants (also don't like that textured implants can cause this rare cancer ALCL) I have meet with Dr.Frank and Dr. Zhang to discuss my options.. Its very difficult to decide who to use and whether to do the surgery- I just wish Dr.Boyd would see me again ( you are right big shoes to fill). I am going to try and get in to see her. She did say that I would always be her patient- so hoping I will at least get a consultation with her. If not then will need to decide. My daughter is meeting with Dr. Zhang today and perhaps she should get a referral to Dr. Frank as well (based on your great experience).

I wish I was a candidate for the DIEP surgery. I have a blood clotting disorder and this surgery would be too risky for me. Did you have both your breasts reconstructed? According to your profile it seems as though you just had your right side done. ?

Thanks for all your help and for checking in just 4 days after your surgery . Sending healing vibes to you . Keep in touch and let me know how you have progressed with your recovery.

    Hi OM12!

I am new here and I stubbled accross this page searching for reviews for Dr. Simon Frank and I see that you recently had a DIEP done. I will explain my situation. I am BRCA 2+ and had a prophalactic mastecomy 4 years ago. I had Dr. Boyd as my surgeon. I ended up going direct to implants (800CC each) but NEVER wanted implants in the first place. I had originally wanted the flap but Dr. Boyd said that I was too thin at the time (wishing I was still at that weight but am getting back there slowly but surely. ) Anyways to make a long story short, I find out yesterday by chance (had a CT scan for something else) and it came back saying thtat there was evidence of an implant rupture. I am trying to stay calm, easier said then done knowing that I have gel goop inside of me... I am seeing Dr. Frank next Wednesday, Nov 21 and I want these thing out ASAP. I am youngish (38) and I can't stay flat - i just wouldn't be able to handle it mentally so I am considering a flap. I am just wondering how you are doing now? How are the results? Was the recovery rough? I am just a little scared because it is a really long surgery... I have 2 little kiddies (6+8) and ALWAYS want to be here for them.

Looking forward to hearing back from you and I hope you are all recoverd and are loving the results!

Hi, how do i get in touch with Dr Simon Frank, ive had a failed DIEP and was wondering if I could redo it. I had it done in 2011 and failed due to clotting issues.

Sorry to hear you had a failed DIEP.

You will need to a referral from your family doctor. He works out of the General.

    Good Luck
