Surgeon MIA - When To Move On

Hello Everyone!

Would love your thoughts and feedback on an issue I'm experiencing. My plastic surgeon whom did my reconstruction in January is really flaky and I'm not feeling the love. I scheduled an appointment with him as I'm pretty sure my left breast is experiencing a bad reaction to the radiation (hardness, misshapen, uncomfortable) and I'd like to see what's going on. The office canceled my appointment the night before and I've called twice now to reschedule and nothing. No call back- nothing. I'm pretty over it and ready to go elsewhere. I don't feel I should be begging for an appointment or doing all the follow up. Do you think it's okay to have another surgeon step in and take over? Truth be told, I'm not happy with the work done in January and I was planning on getting second opinion for a redo anyway.

I had mastectomy with reconstruction in January and I am not happy with the outcome. I need to wait for my own personal reasons but my surgeon would have done revision whenever I wanted it. I had radiation in same breast in 2003 and it caused huge wounds on my reconstructed breast. It took seven months to heal which is why I didn't have any revisions yet.

You have every right to see another surgeon and you are absolutely right that you shouldn't have to work so hard to get an appointment! I would check with your insurance company first to make sure that won't be an issue, but I doubt it would be.

I think you are doing the right thing! Please let me know how things work out for you!

Breast cancer is hard enough without all the issues with doctors!

Glad I could help if even a little. That is why I love this message board, it is full of people who really care about helping others by sharing information! I have been on the receiving end of the help more times than I can count! 😊

often the follow ups are covered under your plastic surgeons fee. It's totally fine to move on just not sure on the billing stuff. At the very least go for a consult with someone else . you deserve to get the answers you need.
