edited August 2019 in Not Diagnosed But Worried

about 2 weeks ago I noticed my right breast was slightly redder than my left. Also in that area that is red with enlarged hair follicles noticeable. I freaked out because I’m a googlear and had to google it. It only gave worse case scenarios. I went to the dr and she felt around that Breast and said it was warm to the touch and that in that area it was thickened area but she said that could be normal for me which that area that feels thickened has since I can remeber always been normal for me I guess. She sent me for a diagnostic mammo and ultrasound and missed it because I’m currently waiting to see family dr for something for my nerves. I do not know what’s else could cause this, but why does everything point to cancer?. What else could it be! Tomorrow is the family dr for hopefully something for my nerves and then another referral for a diagnostic mammo

Hi Missmom79, and welcome to Breastcancer.org.

    First, stay off Dr. Google!

Second, we know it's hard to not jump to conclusions, but there're many benign conditions that mimic the symptoms you're having, including breast infections, dermatological issues, etc.

Try to stay calm until you can talk to your GP and also until you have more info from your mammo. Let us know how it goes and we'll be sending good thoughts your way!

i forgot to mention that I have been on a antibiotic for an abscess tooth about 8 days before the redness showed and then when I went to the dr for the redness and enlarged hair follicles she prescribed aigumnetin and said she’d just call it mastitis although she didn’t think that’s what it was. I just finished that antibiotic today and nothing. Nothing has gotten worse. I mind has run wild to the point I was wondering if it was from an ancess tooth on that same side which was really bad and even after two antibiotics still sore. That tooth is on the same side as the affected breast so could there be lymp obstruction? Mind you the second round of antibiotics was supposedly for my breast Infection. But she didn’t think I had that. I have my mother physically and mentally exhausted calling her all hours of the night crying and carrying on. I’m putting myself on a casket and don’t even know what it is yet.

Missmom79 I am sorry that you are having to deal with this. My anxiety is high right now also because of callback from annual mammogram. I will not read any reports of my mammogram and I had to leave dr. Google alone. I have appointments in 2 weeks. Until then I have been able to calm myself by telling myself that whatever it is or isn't, there is nothing that my worrying will do to change that. I am taking things one step at a time and trying not to think too far ahead. I stil have my moments but not that constant worrying. If it gets to that stage I will do as you and get something for my nerves. I did Google some anxiety forums and that is what got me to this calm I have now. They have good information and techniques to help. Wishing all the best for you. ((Hugs)).

thank you I'll have to try to google some anxiety forums as well as hypochondria. I have been this way all my life but these symptoms are real and scary. My grandmother had IBC (on my moms side) she didn't pass from that but from a heart attack. I didn't find any info where it said that it was hereditary. The dr that I seen said I did not have orange peel skin just enlarged follicles. I am staying off google. I guess the reason we google is to find some kind of reassurance somewhere of what it might be other than cancer. I still have to go in for my first mammo though and ultrasound because of the symtoms. I am 39 so I haven’t had one yet. Tomorrow my primary dr will probably put me on clonazaepam or Xanax. I need to get over this hurdle.

well, I got something for my nerves. It’s helping somewhat. I have a mamo and US reschedule for Monday. I know tomorrow night I am not going to be able to sleep. The right breast still look the same. No change in it. So I am curious will they do the US if only needed or will they did the mammogram? This is my first mammogram BTW. Also becuase of the slight redness in a certain area do you think they will do a biopsy? I’ve been reading a lot of stories in here so I’m just wondering. I hate not knowing and not knowing what to expect and especially not knowing what is going on with my breast. I got re examined by my primary dr and she did a very thorough exam ad said both breast felt the same and there were no swollen nodes in the armpit or the collarbone and basically she just said the only thing concerning to her was the pinkness of the right breast. No chages in it 2 and a half weeks. She did tell me that I did need to keep my appt with mammo. Which of course I plan on doing! Any feed back would be great
