Explant surgery

I'm due to get my implant (on my non cancer side, which was done for symmetry) out shortly. It's been recalled, and while I don't need to get it out immediately, I've had it for 10 years so just want to do the swap for a non-recalled implant now.

What's explant surgery like? I'm assuming it's outpatient? Stitches involved? I now live half way across the country from my PS, just trying to figure out how much time I need to allocate for being in the NYC area, which is where he is.

And is it painful? Minor detail, but I just would like to know ahead of time.

Thanks!

I swapped my implants 3 months ago. I had a teeny bit of incision pain from time to time, but other than that, no pain! Had the usual restrictions on lifting, physical activity and baths/swimming. Was outpatient when I switched from tissue expanders to implants. Would have been outpatient for the swap, but I had a hysterectomy as well. Stitches. For me, it was no big deal.

I skipped the one week follow up for both my exchange surgery and my swap surgery. Usually, they would see you one week post op. I waited for the one month as all was fine.

Mine are pre pectoral, over the muscle. Good luck!!

How long were you on weight restrictions? We now live in ski country, just trying to figure out how long I will be out of skiing, thx!

4 weeks not lifting more than 10 pounds. I would ask about skiing specifically. I am a ski gal as well
