30 Y/O/F, Family Hx BC, Palpable Lump, Negative Mammo/US
m 30 y/o/f, no children, “very dense breasts” (per PCP- waiting on Mammo report for rating of density) with a family history of breast cancer on my fathers side. My paternal Aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and 6 other relatives have had BC. My aunt is BRCA1 positive.... I haven't been tested.
I discovered a lump in my left breast , around 1-2 o'clock. I found this lump a couple of months ago but delayed seeing my PCP due to a busy work schedule. I initially did the breast exam because I noticed that the left breast was heavy feeling and I have noticed changed to the shape and pigment of my areola. I finally saw her on Thursday and i was sent to the breast clinic for imaging following her exam. Upon her exam she found another lump closer in towards the nipple, around 1-2 o'clock. She also found a lump on the right breast at 7 o'clock.
The Mammo and US were both normal according to the radiology technician. She said I had completely normal breast tissue... i questioned her asking if the lumps showed on the US and she said no; however, I did see her taking measurement while doing the US. The tech seemed very dismissive the entire time- she asked questions in a very condescending way and pretty much said it would be impossible for me to have any issues at my age. She even questioned me multiple times about whether I found the lump or if my pcp did. I explained that I found one, d/t the heaviness in my left breast and nipple changes that prompted my self exam and led me to my pcp...The tech seemed annoyed that I was even being screened....I never saw the radiologist and the tech never tried to feel the lumps. She placed the markers where I pointed, barely touching me. Is this normal? I know the tech isn't supposed to give an exam but I see many other posts about the tech feeling the palpable lump but not seeing it in imaging.
I am very confused and worried. My PCP completely dismissed my concerns about the Mammo/US missing something, especially in dense breasts. I am just concerned that due to my age I am being shrugged off. Should I just let it go?
I have not received my US report but I am anxious to read what the findings are. Should I see a breast specialist or just chalk it up to "normal" lumpy dense breasts?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I'd say wait until your get the reports from the mammogram and ultrasound to see what it says before you do anything. I appreciate your concern about the lumps, but it is possible to have lumps and still have a normal report. For example, the report might state that imaging found a couple of simple cysts - which are very common, easy to identify on imaging and are clearly benign - and that would explain the lumps that you are feeling but would also result in a normal report with no follow-up required. Not saying that's what happened, but just making the point that that you should wait for the report before you think about what next steps, if any, are necessary.
And discount whatever the Tech said to you during your imaging. Not sure why the Tech was talking to you at all... usually they are not allowed to say anything to the patient about the imaging (although they can ask the background questions to ensure that they are doing the ultrasound imaging in the right place). If anyone speaks to the patient during or following the imaging, it should be the Radiologist, and usually this only happens if there is a concern for when the imaging is a follow-up because of a concern. The mammogram and ultrasound reports will be written by the Radiologist.
