Waiting for my genetic test results...
Hi everyone. First post. I was diagnosed with ADH in my right breast last week. They want to excise a larger area so I have an appointment to see the surgeon in October(!). I had my blood drawn on Tuesday for the genetic test.
Has anyone else done it? How long did it take? I'm not sure if I'm worried about it or not, but waiting sucks!!!

I had genetic testing done in Ontario Canada. It took 9 weeks to get the results on the first four (BRCA1, BRCA2, CHEK2, PALB2) in my panel and an additional four weeks for the rest. The waiting was okay. It was in the back of my mind, but I always had bigger things to deal with.
Fingers crossed you have no mutations.

Hi Lukesmom17!
Sorry you find yourself here. Hopefully all goes well for you!
I am in the U.S. My genetic test results from Invitae for breast cancer genes took 12 days from the blood draw. I had 2 other panels run at later dates and those also took about two weeks.
Good luck and keep us posted

Also in the US and the genetic results took 10 days for me. Good luck for sure.

Thank you for the responses!
I think part of the confusion for me is that I have had biopsies and an MRI (in rapid succession) for a benign condition. Seems like a lot of fuss and then the surgical consult isn't even until October. It feels like much ado about nothing. But all of you have had real cancer diagnosis. I can't imagine what you've been through. I just feel confused.

That's a long ways off, waiting like that would be super hard for me. And just a quick aside, what you're going through is real, too. Don't discount it.

Hi Lukesmom, when I had my genetic testing done just this past January, it took about four weeks before I received the results. Just a heads up- I was called in to meet with the counselor to receive my results; they would not tell me over the phone if I had tested positive or negative for anything. That caused some anxiety bc of course I assumed I must have tested positive if they required me to meet with the counselor again to receive results. It turns out that at the place I was tested they require that of everyone, so my worry was all for nothing. I tested negative for BRCA. Good luck to you!

SUPer52 I think the genetic counselor said that if it's clear she would tell me over the phone but if not I'd have to come in. So that's not anxiety producing or anything! Yikes. I'm trying to be cool about it all...

STILL WAITING. It's so stressful. I hope I hear next week. I was really hoping for this week, but no such luck. I'll be glad when it's over no matter the results.

I received my results. No mutations. I have a variation in my ATM gene but that does not cause an increased risk of cancer. So yay! Now all I have to worry about is how my pathology comes out post surgery.
