Biopsy Done. Now More Waiting

Routine mammogram found a nodule. Ultrasound on 6/20 confirmed “at 6:00 there is a suspicious avascular nodule with angular margins measuring 9.6x7x9.6 mm. Nodule in left breast is suspicious. Surgical consult and biopsy recommended”. Had to wait until today for biopsy. Now another 3-5 days of waiting. It really has been the worst part of it all. A friend told me that even if it turns out to be benign they may want to do a lumpectomy anyway? Is this common? I have all these scenarios in my head and just want to know what I’m dealing with. The not knowing is terrible.

If there are atypical cells found they might do an excisional biopsy, but not usually if it is clearly benign

Kat, so sorry you are going through this stress also! I first started down this path in late May. I'm sure my cortisol levels would be through the roof if they measured them :) My biopsy is scheduled for Thursday, so I'm sure I'll be waiting through the weekend... fingers crossed they get you your results at the 3 day mark :)

From what I've seen so far on the boards, and talking to my surgeon, Melissa is spot on. Most benign findings don't raise your risk of developing cancer. Some benign conditions do raise your risk and that is when they might talk to you about removing it. But the decision is always yours, they won't force you to get it done if you don't want to.... it just might mean more careful screening.

And maybe tell your friend to keep the scary stories to themself unless they have gone through this, lol.

Please update us here when you get the results, sending b9 thoughts your way!

I am in the same boat! I had my biopsy today, too, and am already on pins and needles. I am BIRADS 4a, so I know my risk is low, but I just can't relax. This part just sucks. 😞
