Finally got a breast MRI
Hello everyone, going forward from my previous posts I've finally after 9 months of a living nightmare got my breast MRI done, I should get the results tomorrow or maybe Tuesday I'm not to sure. My main concern has been inflammatory breast cancer, does anyone know what signs I need to look out for in terms of that showing on the MRI, I know skin thickening is one of them but my doctor who the results will be going to isnt great at ever explaining things properly to me, I'm worried he won't even call if I'm honest I'll probably have to make the call myself, my symptoms have progressed and the middle of my breasts and on my bad breast has around 9 blister/spot type lesions it's itching and I have red patches all over the breast, the pain at the moment is awful and I'm so swollen, I'm really scared for the results I just want to know what I need to look out for, I had the scan done privately so I don't think they're able to tell me anything only my doctor when he receives them. Will the radiologist that's seen my scan write in the report wether further testing is needed? Or if they're suspicious of anything specific? Thank you.

If you had IBC you would know before 9 months. 9 months of worry might require seeing a specialist about anxiety. Or maybe posting on a forum dealing with anxiety instead of cancer would diminish your cancer worries? You might find people dealing with anxiety better to relate to than those of us who have cancer. If you keep assuming you have cancer of course you would worry.
Wishing you peace.

I'm so sorry you are dealing with this. Worrying and not knowing are the worst. Has anyone done a skin biopsy on the area you or your doctors suspect may be cancer? I don't think MRI picks up inflammatory bc, but I don't know that for a fact. The only sure way is to have a pathologist look at it under a microscope. If you are worried and your regular docs aren't taking you seriously, why not go to a dermatologist and have them look at it. It could be something simple like eczema or psoriasis--allowing you to skip scans that can cause more harm down the line. Best to you.
I just googled and MRI CAN pick up inflammatory breast cancer, so hopefully you get some news soon and can get on with a full and happy life.

hello and thank you so much for your response, my derm did a skin punch biopsy which showed inflammation and a skin condition around my nipple that isn’t causing any of these issues, he biopsied on a random part of skin as I had redness over many areas so he just went in the middle. I appreciate the care I really do, it’s broke my life apart, it’s not that I'm just stuck on the idea of ibc, it's just that I've had no diagnosis of what's going on and it's just getting worse I'm in crippling pain and just want to for one of course rule it out fully as I know MRI can find it and then hopefully it'll be the test to find what is going on wether bad or not. Thank you so much for responding to me it's so nice having people to talk too. I hope you're well hun x

I'm so sorry for your stress. Hopefully the MRI results can put your mind at rest either way and once you have a plan, the stress, though never gone completely, may subside a bit for you. Apologies I missed you had the punch biopsy. I'm glad that was negative, so there's that to cling to. You are trusting your gut and doing right by following it as much as possible and I hope they can confirm something for you.
Hard to let go when you are told one thing but feel like something is missed.Post back with your results. We are rooting for you!

Worried, I'm so sorry you are going through this, I can tell you are incredibly worried and scared! I am in a similar situation with the waiting to discover what is occurring. I'll be having a biopsy next week due to concerning findings on my MRI.
I totally get the fear of them possibly missing the diseased location during a biopsy. I also understand the frustration of having obvious symptoms and not having answers as to the cause.
I have thought about this a lot and know if my biopsy comes back saying everything is completely normal, I am sure I'll continue to be stressed. To me it is obvious, due to clinical symptoms, something is going on. If the biopsy comes back normal I'll fear they missed whatever is going on. Good or bad I just really want to know what it is. So I get how frustrated you must be with still having no answers.
The information I've gathered about MRIs is that they are very sensitive. So the chance of it missing a cancer is very small. So if you get a clear MRI you can start looking at other possible causes. The radiologist who views the images will write a report and clearly state any abnormal findings, if there is not anything abnormal or concerning it will state that. You will have a BIRADS score and if they feel any further follow up is needed, that will be included in the report.
You have a right to a copy of the report, even if it was done privately. And your doctor will call you with the results, especially if something is seen on the imaging. You need to decide now that you will trust the results of the MRI, before you get the report. This is important to start working on reducing the understandable anxiety you have.
Anything I've seen about IBC says it is aggressive. The fact you've had these symptoms for 9 months means it would be virtually impossible for it not to show on the MRI at this point. So a clear scan really will logically eliminate that concern, if you choose to trust the result. Don't try to interpret the report yourself. Trust what the report says, and the interpretation of the scan by the radiologist and your doctor. If you don't understand something about the report post the part of your report you don't understand to the board "interpreting your reportc, and djmammo will tell you what it means. Don't use Google, the fear will just get you looking at only the worst possible scenarios instead of the most likely ones.
If the scan shows nothing, go back to your doctor and don't mention cancer. Explain and reiterate your concerns and that you are in pain. Explain you just want to find out why and get help with relieving the symptoms. This gives your doctor a chance to review what is happening and look for other possibilities. If you mention cancer your doctor will instead spend their time and attention on explaining why you don't have it, and may stop hearing anything additional you have to say.
Sending prayers for b9 MRI results, answers and solutions to the symptoms and pain you are experiencing.

Hello and thank you so much for your response it means so much to me. I'm so sorry you're going through a similar situation with the fear too and the tests, it's horrible and I hope you also get good results. Please keep me updated, sending all my prayers and love. It's a really stressful time and I can't put that into enough words. Thank you for all the information that's really helped me on what to expect going further. I hope to finally get answers and praying that somehow with all these horrible symptoms it's something other than cancer
. The fear is for my son, I can't stand the thought of him not having me around and the fear it's been left to late so it won't be a good outcome
