Edj what a gorgeous site for a hike!
Ruth, the WWW were festive, but Wonderland, your outfit is the tops! I love it and also love that beautiful ocean view. Enjoy.
Falconer a yoga stretch really helped my foot pain that I had near the ball of my foot. According to my yoga teacher, the key was to hold the stretch for a while-might have been 90 seconds? I was shocked how well it worked.
I was on my feet all day yesterday. We went for a long walk around the lake. It was only 85 so it was actually nice and a good breeze off the lake helps. Then I was on my feet all afternoon. Pitted a big bowl of cherries from my cherry tree standing at the kitchen island. Made ribs and cucumber salad and potatoes and then separate meal of spaghetti for my son who can't tolerate the ribs right now. Made two batches of cherry compote, one with monk fruit and one with sugar. Made french toast with cherry compote for dessert. OMG so delicious. Then when it got cooler I walked the dog before going to fireworks.
I was trying to get a picture of the butterflies but they wouldn't cooperate. Here are the wildflowers of the week at the lake. I love to see how it changes each week.
-
Love the wildflowers!
I slept in, rolled out of bed right into my swimsuit & straight to Aqua Zumba. I will do a yoga DVD & walk puppies this afternoon.
-
ruth- if you have time, post some doggy pictures. I love watching how quickly your grand puppy is growing. I finished work early today. I'm spending a few hours at the SNF with my elderly neighbor. This evening I plan on working out with the medicine ball, balance ball and running on the treadmill.
-
Okay, Jo. you've twisted my arm. Here's a real down dog.....
-
Riding shotgun with DH.
-
Here's a really nice shot of Astra.
-
gorgeous Wonderland and TwoHobbies. Great Down dog photos, Ruth.
TH- any chance you could describe the stretch? I find the pain is actually the worst at like 4:30 AM.
Walked a lot at the beach but no running. Yoga this AM.

I am having real problems with this inactivity. I remembered to get some bottled water, did not have a cart, and carried it up to checkout. ETC, ETC. I will be so glad when I can get back to exercising. My back cramps from standing and leaning over the sewing machine, etc. I was not experiencing that before. It will be another week before I am allowed to go to the gym and just workout in the recumbent bicycle. My sister helped me make strawberry jam, and the prices on peaches will be going down soon, so I will be making spiced peach and jalapeno peach jams, but I don't know if I will have to give another lesson in jam-making to some unsuspecting friend, or just wait and hope cheap peaches will be available when given permission. Dang frustrating.
-
MCBaker, what are you sewing? I sew also although not much for the last couple of years.
-
I belong to a quilting club. We give quilts to various charities and agencies. The better-quality ones we sell to make money for rent, batting and backing. I brought home the binding box a few weeks ago, and have made two tops from the scrappy pieces. Emptying the box by half. It has been keeping me busy, without any dangers.
Then our local animal shelter would love to have blankets without batting for their guests. Then they can take them to their new home, for a sense of continuity. We have been given a lot of fabric, even fleece, which are not usable in quilting.
-
ruth- I got my fix. Those are great pictures. Grandpup looks like he's becoming a grand dog. They are precious. I love the down dog and the ride with your DH
-
Well, I've had an interesting 24 hours since I last checked in. After posting the doggy pictures, DH came home & wondered if we all would like to take a short walk before DS picked up the dogs. I said sure & didn't even change from my sandals into tennis shoes since it was going to be 'short'. We were walking on a sidewalk next to a field (and I was not paying attention), when a gopher jumped out of the grass and sprinted across the sidewalk. Astra (being 5 months old) took off like a bat out of hell after it. I did not drop the leash in time (or brace myself) and thus spun through the air, crashed to the sidewalk, banged my temple, broke my glasses, and scrapped my whole left side in the process. Luckily DH with. He corralled the dogs & we limped home (10 minutes), me bleeding like crazy (a small gash in the eyebrow, but you know how head wounds bleed) all the way. Once I had cleaned up, calmed down, started icing the ice etc. I noticed my ring finger was swollen up about 3 times the normal size. So....off to urgent care for an xray (thankfully just a bad sprain) and some glue in the eyebrow. So I am moving kind of gingerly today, although I did take a slow walk & found 30 minutes of standing core & lower body (without weights) exercises on Utube. I have a splint on the finger now & am supposed to buddy tape it to another finger and not do anything crazy until it heals. But at least nothing is broken. That's my sad story for the day!!
-
Oh no, Ruth! I am sure that you will mend soon. Hope you have a second pair of glasses.
I am here to report that I have cycled 102 miles since Thursday, and plan for another 35 or so tomorrow.
Then, next weekend it's Portland Baby!!! - Claire
-
Ruth! Hope you’re on the mend. Amazing that you still did a workout. I’d be on the couch with Netflix and wine.
-
I'm on the couch with Netflix right now. I think wine would make my finger throb more, but I am contemplating a bowl of ice cream
-
Ruth- OUCH!! Not a fun way to end the day! I do hope you had that bowl of ice cream! You are truly amazing! You managed to work out after that fall! ( I never take the time to put in my tennis shoes most of my steps are in my slippers )
Claire- thus alot of miles!
I managed to get 2 hours in the pool with the grandkids this evening after dinner. Chasing a 2 and 4 year old around the pool is a work out!
-
ruth- thankfully you didn't experience more severe injuries. How frightening for you and your husband. I'm impressed that you worked out in spite of your recent injuries. Hopefully you won't be too sore tomorrow.
-
I have been busy the last few weeks, school just got out last week and not exercising consistently, and I logged on tonight, jumped to the end of the thread to read of your adventure Ruth-I hope u are on the mend! I have my prep tomorrow for my colonoscopy on Monday. I do have this nagging in my head about “what if they find another cancer” (I’ve already had 2)so I will drink clear liquids only tomorrow and go in at noon on Monday. My plan is to re start my exercise on Tuesday!
-
Wonderland, I've never seen star spangled tie dye - super! Varga, beautiful butterfly and like the tee shirt. Falconer, happy birthday to little one and enjoy the yoga. Good training Claire. Ruth, what a young strong dog, hope you are less sore today. Lovely photos Heidi, Hikinglady, edj and Twohobbies. Jo, condolences to you and mother. 2FUN, fingers crossed for all clear.
I've been busy, delivering new bodyflow release, some cover for those on vacation and wrapping up classes to Thursday afternoon and then on the train to Bristol for a week of yin training. Hope my bod holds as it has a way of going into right side leg spasm whenever on course. Thanks for the tips picked up on this thread.
-
Hi all, it’s been quite a few days since I was last here. My MIL was transferred to rehab this past Tuesday. On Friday they took a chest X-ray as she had been coughing. Pneumonia! Tuesday there is a family meeting so DH is going back for it. He is so worried about his Mom. But my MIL is pretty healthy for 91 1/2 and has a great attitude.
Ruth ouch about your fall. Glad it wasn’t worse.
I’ve been good with steps
-
Echoing the others, Ruth, that you weren't more injured. And Claire, you're a beast on that bike!
No workout yesterday, it was a day supposed to be full of travel to get home. Well we made it to Salt Lake City and missed our connection. So we spent the night here and fly out in a couple of hours. So today's cratered too, since we're losing half the day for our return trip. I really needed today to get caught up at work and instead it's going to be a day of the two of us getting all the laundry done, cleaning the house and consoling our two remaining kitties (one died the day before we left).
Guess I need a vacation from the vacation.
-
Ow, Ruth. I am glad your injuries weren’t worse. Ice cream makes it all feel a little better.
Ironically I walked with DH and dog last night and also lost control of dog (bunny rather than gopher) but he just pulled the leash from me. I got a bad leash burn several years ago, so I have accepted dropping the leash. He dragged his leash down the street about three houses before I caught up with him. I have an extension leash which allows more slack and therefore time to rein in or let go.
Falconer you asked about my foot stretch. Put your foot up on your thigh and push the ball of the foot outward with the palm of you hand from the center and hold for 45? 90? seconds -can’t exactly recall, but allegedly muscle memory takes hold at these long periods. Then you pull the toes back towards the top of the foot and hold. I hope you can understand those instructions and that it helps some.
2Fun, I hope all is well with your colonoscopy. Just did that with DS Tuesday. It is not fun and relate to yourworry over what they may find.
-
I got a 1 hour walk in as I mowed the lawn. We had a beautiful day here today- 75F and hardly any humidity.
I started my colonoscopy "cocktail" and DH is cooking for everyone else. I hope to get some weights in tomorrow after my procedure. I hope to come here more often to get energized to exercise! Have a good week everyone!
-
ruth- you must be very sore today. I hope your injuries were not more serious than you initially thought. Take care of yourself
-
Ouch Ruth. Hope it's better today and healing. I agree, ice cream is great but I probably would have had both.
Just checking in since it's been about 3 months. All is well with me. Learned today a friend has Stage 2B with node involvement. Starts chemo Tuesday. Please keep her (Linda) in prayer.
Later sculpted friends.
-
patoo- I have stage 2B with one node involved. I never want to relive the first two to three weeks of my diagnosis. Will send positive energy in your direction and your friends. Are you still traveling in your camper
-
Make sure you invite Linda over to BCO, patoo. Even if she doesn't want to do the discussion boards, the information from the home page can be invaluable.
2Fun, the good thing about having a regular colonoscopy is that even if they find something, they can snip it out, and it never has to turn into a big deal.
Edj, I hope you finally made it home! So sorry about your kitty.
Yes, not surprisingly, I feel pretty beat up today. I forced myself NOT to go to yoga (boo hoo), but took a walk and did some stretching exercises that I found on UTube. Tomorrow I will go to the eye doctor & see if they can resurrect my glasses. For now I am wearing an old pair, which does not work all that well!!
-
TH: Sorry to read that your son was in the hospital. Glad he's back home and hope his colonoscopy results are favorable.
Jo: Happy that you took the trip earlier to visit your aunt. May she rest in peace.
Ruth: OMG! Hope you aren't too sore.
Claire: You are a beast!
Patoo: Keeping Linda in my prayers.
Karen: Sorry your MIL has pneumonia. Hope she recovers quickly.
2FUN: Good luck tomorrow!
LB: A week of yin training sounds fascinating!
Hi Everyone! We are back from the beach and I already want to go back. This is the 31st year of going to the beach for a week with my side of the family. Somehow we survive with that much family togetherness! I love swimming in the ocean but it's hard not to think about the shark attacks that have occurred this year when you're in the water. We all felt the same way but we still went swimming every day.
Walked and even ran a little this evening.
-
Thanks everyone. jo6359, yes, these are the most difficult times, but she has her port in and chemo starts Tuesday so she's on her way which hopefully helps. Wonderland, thanks.
ruthbru, I actually shared a BCo link with her husband. He is a mess, having a hard time (his SIL died from BC within last 2 years), and we know caregivers need plenty of support as well. I did ask him to share it with her. I will talk with her about it at a later time. I actually had Lynn (mysunshine48) give Linda a call this afternoon. Lynn did chemo, which I did not do, so it's a connection from someone who knows. Lynn also took a course, not long ago, which certified her to counsel newly diagnosed cancer patients. She was able to give Linda tips and information that the doctors, of course, neglect to tell you. Linda has an appointment on Wednesday with her BS and Lynn gave her a list of questions to ask.
Night all.
-
Good, patoo. I don't think there is anything more helpful, and encouraging, than to talk to someone who has 'been there, done that'.
