Anastrozole (Arimidex): Just how tired do you get??

I've been on Anastrozole (Arimidex) since Oct 2018. I counted myself lucky because I had no side effects except maybe a hot flash once or twice a month.

But for the past few months, I'm tired all of the time. I do something for a couple of hours then end up sitting around the rest of the day, taking a nap and/or going to bed early. I feel weak, fatigued and my muscles ache. I walk slowly now and admit I can feel unsteady.

But I'm also 75 and wonder how much of this is just plain old age? Yet others my age and older get out and about just fine.

My last radiation treatment (13 rounds) was Sept 5, 2018 (speaking of fatigue). But that was nine months ago.

Is there any way to beat this fatigue, etc?

I was on it for a little over 4 years, then went on tamoxifen for about 7 months. Was off all meds about a year. I haven’t noticed an increase or decrease in energy. Just finished rads this week, again, and I’m pooped. Check in with PCP maybe something else is going on. Oh, I’m 70.

Sometimes you get more tired when you aren't doing enough. Try adding more moving/walking etc. into your day and you may be surprised that you will actually have MORE energy. It seems backwards but I have found that it works for me.

Viewfinder viewfinder, I have been on anastrozole exactly the same amount of time as you have been. I am dealing with extreme fatigue all of the time.

I started Anastrozole in August 2018 and I haven’t noticed fatigue when going about my life although I do sleep a bit more, and it takes more effort to get up in the morning. I work out regularly and live an active life.

You can discuss with your doc changing medication since there are a few options for AI

Thank you everyone for your input. I will speak to my oncologist about the fatigue and possible relationship to the medicine. I also think the advice about becoming more active is correct. I have to motivate myself to be more active!
