Hello, I'm new here. I apologize if this has already been asked. I searched the forums for Architectural distortion and found some posts but really just looking for basics. I had my 2nd ever mammo yesterday and notified today that I have dense breasts and Architectural distortion was seen in my left breast. I am 42 years old. I have an appt scheduled in 1 1/2 weeks for a diagnostic mammo and ultrasound. What questions do I need to ask? Anything I should be looking for? And with Architectural distortion this early in the game should I be worried yet? Thanks for you help.

Hi Ctta04, sorry to hear that the mammo looks a little unusual.

I had dense breasts and an architectural distortion. You could actually see that my breast was flatter in one spot once we took a moment to look (I don't know how I'd missed that!!). I think I had a bunch of other things like "spiculated margins", etc which indicated that mine was very suspicious (Birads 5).

    Some questions:

How often are architectural distortions cancer and how often they are other things like scars?

How long will it take to get the results?

Can they tell you at the appointment what Birads category it will have, or do you have to wait for the results? (I'm guessing you'll wait, but can't hurt to ask)

Hope it turns out to be nothing!

Ctta04, I am currently having an eval for the same but I am a step ahead of you and in my case additional views show a need for biopsy of the area.

That said, was your arch. Distortion seen on a 2D mammo or a 3D? 3Ds seem to pick them up more often. From what I understand its very possible that if seen on a 3d your additional mammo views may show no further need to investigate. Mine didnt work out that way, but..it can.

I'm going through the same thing. My diagnostic mammo and u/s did not show anything further than a distorted area. I ended up getting a stereostatic biopsy which showed I had a radial scar. I see the BS next week to see what the next step will be.
