We're trying to highlight the challenges of men with breast cancer through the fall.

Would you share your story with us if you are you a man with breast cancer? How has living with male breast cancer been for you?

Please PM the mods or email your story to comments@breastcancer.org

Thank you so much!

Thanks for asking. My good friend Rob, Chester8066, died last week. My good friend Fiddleman will certainly help you out. The story of his recent progression to Stage IV is one we could all learn from. As you are likely aware, there's no men on BCO with breast cancer who post regularly, apart from me. It would be great to somehow have more men on the forums posting, so I'll put your request on the Male Breast Cancer Coalition web pages.

Hello. I was diagnosed with male breast cancer in June of 2017 at the age of 49. Fortunately it was stage 1 and had not spread to my lymph nodes. Underwent surgery for Rt mastectomy in July of 2017 followed by a visit to DF in Boston for a consult on treatment plan. Treatment plan consisted of AC chemo (completed in Fall of 2017) and 5 years of Tamoxifen (through 2022).

Would be willing to share more with BCO if the need still exists.

Welcome Thumper K. There's not many men posting here, so it's good to have a new guy on the block and I hope BCO will take up your offer to share your story.

Feel free to post your questions and share your experiences. How are you going as far as side effects go with the Tamoxifen? Has it been recommended that you have a genetic test?

Thank you, Traveltxt. Biggest concern with Tamoxifen has been change in libido. Have you heard of other men on Tamoxifen with same SE? I did have genetic testing done, negative for BRCA1 & 2.

Tamoxifen blocks estrogen, which is not a great contributor to male libido. Nevertheless tamoxifen has reduced libido as a SE. Not many bc men I know have reported this, but if that’s what you’re experiencing, then I’d talk to a specialist who might offer some solutions.
