Peeling and burnt

Please offer words of encouragement. I’m almost 2 weeks out from radiation treatments. My skin held up so good during treatments and right after they were done my skin started separating (in the fold under my right breast). It’s now peeling so bad and the red skin is showing through. Will I start healing after I’m done peeling? I saw my surgeon for follow up and says I have what amounts to 2nd degree burns. He gave me Silvadene to use. If it’s not one issue it’s another. Such an emotional roller coaster.PLEASE HELP!!!

Have them send you to wound care. You need some silver sulfadiazine. I had 2nd degree burns, they tried 2 other creams for me and this was the only one that worked. The Silvadine may help too, just give it time.

Thank you goldie. Yes my surgeon gave me the silver sulfadiazine also. All the burnt skin is still peeling. Hopefully it will start healing when all of that is off

Lather it on thick after treatment, maybe cover with some gauze, just to protect your clothing. I'm sure you know to wash it off before your next treatment?

Hopefully you have started using it. I also wanted to add that I had no scarring from the burns.

Mine is almost the same. And you said it was the only thing that worked? I hope that's the case with me. It's pretty painful

I’m so hoping you do well. I thought I was home free also. I finished my 16 treatments and then I had 4 boosts. I don’t think it was the boosts that did me in but I continued to “cook” after it was all said and don

You do continue to cook for a while after treatment. Last time I did rads, my skin broke. Was a weeping oozing mess. Used the silvadine, it did heal.

This time doing rads is better so far. I have 3 more zaps to go. It’s red, and a bit itchy I think I’ll be ok.

Get in touch with your RO, ask what is recommended. Or call your PCP, or a dermatologist. This is miserable to live with, there is stuff to help.

Thank you Spookiesmom. I am using the Silvadine. I'm thinking it's getting worse before getting better because all that cooked skin has to peel? My surgeon Is the one who recommended Silvadine and my RO agreed. I see my RO next Tuesday and he will take a look. Yes it is miserable and emotionally draining because I'm so uncomf

That's so good to hear. I've been using it for a couple of days, so I guess it takes time. How many times a day did you put it on? My Dr said once a day (usually at about the same time each day). I do it after I shower in the morning. I thought I was good and then it hit all of a sudden. We all go through so much and then one more thing. Sometimes it seems like you can’t take any more.Thank you so much Zillsnot4me

I’ve been reading the responses because I am also having issues with burning now and darkness in armpit area. Just finished 20 out of 25 sessions. Skin had been holding up well until this week. I’m allergic to sulfa drugs, so the radiation tech told me today I can’t use Silvadene? I’m using aloe, coconut oil and hydrocortisone cream now. Has anyone heard of any other suggestions for pain/ skin repair?
